Block 3, week 1


After a long break and 3 weeks behind schedule, we get to return to training


Aim


Lets see how much they have forgotten about their total shape in the diving position. We want to see good foot movements, good body shape, reaching for the ball and pushing into all the dives and...... securing as many balls as possible

Forward


Aim


To have the GK moving forward into the dive, thinking of his foot movements and positioning



Instructions


1 GK to start at opposite corners. 

The GK will move around the marker and make a forward dive to collect the served ball from the coach.


Gk to get to his feet and move around the next marker (x6)



Progression


Ball served along the ground from foot


Spread out - top corner save!!



Coaching points


  • Foot movements in front of the ball must be accurate and towards the ball
  • Body shape to be good, finishing angle to be right
  • Stepping into the dive and not backwards

Tired feet (20 mins)

Tired feet


Aim


To make the GK use his feet when he has tired legs - always thinking



Instructions


GK starts at 1st markers and does 5 burpees jumping as high as possible


GK then moves through the ladder, keeping hands up and watching the ball in front and not his feet


GK does another 5 burpees at the 2nd marker


GK moves to the goal at speed to accept the shot on goal


Progression


Add 5 push-ups to the start and end of the ladder work - must be done at speed



Coaching points


  • GK is moving through the drill with good positive foot movements and watching the ball as much as possible
  • Positioning in the goal mist be central
  • Reaching out and securing the ball

Colours


Aim


To have the GK thinking before he has to make a shot



Instructions


The GK is given a series of colours and a number, he has to touch that colour with a foot and move back to the star, then touch the next colour.


Once all the colours are done, he has to move into position for the shot from the nominated number, 



Progression


The colours are changed to numbers and the numbers changed to colours


( push ups for mistakes!!!)



Coaching points


  • The GK should be moving at speed to get into position as early as possible
  • Are the dives forward at the end
  • 4 numbers & 3 Shots - mix it all up, is the GK thinking when moving>>>

Aim


To make the GK move, think and dive all at the same time



Instructions


The GK has 5 goals to defend and he can only move in front of them (Push-up's)


A series of numbers will be shouted and the GK must save the shots in this order i.e 1,3,5 - does he move the right way to start with??


Progression


Each coach to have 2 or 3 balls to exhaust the GK!!!



Coaching points


  • The GK must keep his shape throughout the drill and not give up on the ball
  • Early eyes, where does he want to be 
  • Desire!!!!

Aim


To have the GK making a panic move backwards to save a lofting ball


*** (SAFETY WHEN MOVING BACKWARDS - HAVE A COACH THERE TO SOP THEM MOVING TOO FAR BACK) ***


Instructions


The GK will start half way up the pitch between the ball and his goal. The GK will face his own goal


As soon as the GK turns, c1 can move to lob the GK


The GK is to move backwards, always watching the ball and hake the high save



Progression


As soon as the GK gets to his feet and move towards the ball c2 can move to take his sharp shot on goal



Coaching points


  • The GK is always watching the ball - does he set for the initial shot and then start moving again?
  • All attempts are made to secure the ball or get it away from the goal (punch, pad)
  • Quick to feet and movement to get in front of 2nd ball
