2 cone 2 pole warm up (15 mins)

Set up two cones about no more than 1ft apart. 10ft in front of them put two poles 15 yards apart. Mark one yellow and one blue. Have the player perform a skill at the cones then dribble to the pole when coach calls a color. I.e Blue or Yellow. 

  • Tap tap outside
  • Pull back outside 
  • L-Turn outside 
  • Step over outside 
+ Progression, coach shows a color cone that corresponds to color on the pole. this forces the player to look up before dribbling towards that cone.

2 cone passing (5 mins)

Set out two cones 2 ft apart. 

Have two players stand 5 ft apart. 

1) players pass the ball back and forward in one touch

2) players pass the ball back and forward in two touch

3 cone passing (10 mins)

Set out three cones in a line 2 ft between each cone. 

Have two players stand 5 ft apart. 

1) Right Foot only: Play starts with player 1 passing the ball through the gate to player 2. Player 2 takes their first touch to the right and moves the ball across to the next gate. After passing the ball, both players must move across to the open gate to receive the ball. 

2) Left Foot only: Same as above, but players start on the opposite side and use the left foot only.

Milan Triangle (15 mins)

Set up a triangle of cones.

1) Have players stand 5ft apart across the triangle. Players must pass the ball through the triangle. When players receive the ball, they must take their first touch behind the cone and move to a new side of the triangle. 

2) Make a competition: every time the opponent makes a mistake, you would get the point. Ways to get the point

  •  The opponent hits a cone with ball
  • opponents take more than 3 touches 
  • opponent misses the triangle 
  • The opponent over hits the pass above knee hight.

4 pole numbers passing (10 mins)

set up 4 cones, 3 yards apart. Number the gates 1,2,3. Player stands on one side of the gates, the coach/feeder stands on the other side. The pass from the feeder always comes through gate number two. After the pass coach calls a number, If coach calls 2, the player plays the ball straight back through gate number 2. If the coach calls 1 the player takes a touch with their right foot and plays the ball back to the feeder through gate number 1. If coach calls 3, player takes a touch with their left foot and pass the ball back to the feeder through gate number 3.

4 pole shoot (10 mins)

Set up 4 poles to make 3 gates on the edge of the 18 yard box. Have the coach/feeder on one side closest to the goal. The player on the outside of the 18 yard box. Player and coach pass the ball back and forward. the coach choses which gate the passes come through. When the coach shouts shoot the player takes a touch forward and shoots. If it's on the left the player shoots with the left, If its on the right the player shoots with the right.
