Session objective is when players are receving the ball, making a 'good' decision on when to pass, drive, shoot and retain possession. This session will focus on all the players with challenges for all the teams, also it will be designed for three specific players - Jenson Lambert, who struggles with receiving the ball to drive forward. Oscar Jones, who needs more work on retaining the possession within middle thirds. Fin Morrison, who is the teams goalkeeper who needs to practice on playing out from the back and looking to progress forward.

Moving into the first whole of the session, players willalready be in their teams. 7 vs 7 with goalkeepers in goal (cannot score). Forthe first 3-4 minutes let the kids play to get used to their environment givethem the opportunity to get creative and allow them to have opportunities toshoot and enjoy.
The formation I would like the teams to get into are 3,2,1and 3,1,2,1 - on the day pick what team gets the formations and remember torotate the players in goal. Encourage players to be confident on the ball andallow them to receive how they want to before to start and they go into thesession and offer ideas on how they could receive.
Progressions – limited touches for teams, looking torotate positions when a player is out numbered.
Player Challenges –
Team Challenge – “Can you attack as soon as possible, looking to score early”
Unit Challenge – “ As a team can we try and attack and getinto the final third with a shot in less than 8 passes”
Jenson’s Challenge – “ Can we try and receive the ballwhere we can turn and attack (look a threat) with a shot on target”
Oscar’s Challenge – “Can you be in a position where beforeyou effectively communicate for the ball you know what you’re going to do withit. Plan ahead|”
Fin’s Challenge – “Can you look to distribute the ball toRB or LB’s and offer support once passed”
This whole should last for 25 -30 minutes, then allow timefor a drinks break and move into the part.

What happensto play when it changes to 1 touch?
Within the drinks break the players will be givenquestions to keep them thinking about the topic, working with 2 or 3 people todiscuss their answers. Can all player feedback in some sort of way. Spend 1minute on this then move into the part, show them on the tactics board thenwalk through it with them (1 minute max!)
You need 1 goalkeeper and 1 right back in both finalthirds, then a 3 vs 2 in both rectangles, to start with they are both on thesame team. The goalkeeper will distribute the ball to their right backs, thenthe right backs will play the ball into the rectangle facing him, everyone onethen must get a touch of the ball and they they pass into the other goalkeeper. Keep this cycle going and can players build up the tempo with overlaps, one -twos and one touch football?
Progress to the players (RB's) either driving out with theball or passing the ball into the box. if they choose to drive out can theyhave a player to drop in and become the new right back. Now move into anopposed situation, 3vs 2. The player that plays in are the team who’s shootingat the goal facing them, if the defenders win the ball they then just pass tothe goalkeeper who played to the RB at the start.
Progressions - if the defenders win the ball can theyswitch the ball over the other side for the attackers to score? Remember toswap the defenders thought out the session. Remove the middle line and now allthe middle players mix, emphasize the space and its a 5vs5 situation.
Player Challenges -
Team Challenge - Can we all recognize a pass when itis on, and don’t force it if it isn’t on
Unit Challenge - Can we create space on and off theball to allow your team to attack early, how and why?
Jenson's Challenge - Try to play forward with yourfirst touch into space
Oscar's Challenge - Can you try to regainpossession if loosed, and switch play if the ball gets rejected
Fins Challenge - By playing to the right back canyou communicate and inform him if he can drive forward or not, communication asa GK is key
This 'part' should last for 30- 35 minutes; now move ontothe 2nd whole to evaluate their learning.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Moving back into the second whole of the session this is time for the players to show what they've learnt, allow them to be as creative as possible and emphasize them being creative with their touches. Look for players to follow normal rules of football, corners, throw ins and goal kicks when it touches the fence.
One team with Oscar J to have the formation 2,3,1 and the other one can have player ownership from Owen who will organize the team. Oscar will play as the CM, receiving the ball and can he play his first touch out wide?
Player Challenges -
Team Challenge - "Can you try and change your opponents position by standing on then or pulling them out wide?"
Unit challenge - " Can you put yourself in a position to support the next pass, by giving ques like triggers, body shape, to retain possession"
Jenson's Challenge - "Remain as high up the pitch as you can and when receiving can you first touch be in space and second touch a shot on target"
Oscar's Challenge - " Your challenge this whole is to be more individual, can your drive forward with the ball and look to shoot?"
Fins Challenge - "Try to distribute the ball differently, kicks, throws, rolls to your player and also act as a sweeper keeper"
This should last for 25 minutes
Debrief -
Plenty of can you show me when Q+A, look to see if player remember their challenges and ask why do you think I gave them that. Move onto game situations and also ask for player feedback, whether or not they enjoyed it.
