THE SESSION: Formation

1-4-5-1

GK - Goalkeeper

RWB - Right Wing Back

RCB - Right Centre Back

CB - Centre Back

LCB - Left Centre Back

RW - Right Wing

RCDM - Right Central Defensive Mid

LCDM - Left Central Defensive Mid

LW - Left Wing

ST - Striker

Objectives:

  • No spaces between defensive lines
  • No gaps between players
  • Defend as a unit
  • Quick transitions with forward passes and forward run in few touches

THE SESSION: Goal Kick Set Up

  • CB drops to side of six yard box
  • When CB receives the ball, RCB opens to receive and RWB drops deep to become an option
  • LCB and LWB now come across into central position to protect the centre incase of a transition
  • Both CDM take their positions in relation to the opponents midfielders. If they are high then CDM can go to second line for longer pass, if they are deep we can come to receive ball
  • RW must move in position to receive ball on second line 
  • ST moves across to receive on third line or behind defensive line
  • LW comes inside wide to support on second and third line

The centre back should have multiple options to play. If he can not play short, can he hit players on the second line or even third line

Defensive Corners

THE SESSION: Defensive Corners 

Four players covers zones:

  • Inside the front post - defends front post and goaline
  • Inside the back post - defends back post and goaline
  • Inside the 6 yard box - defends area between goaline and 6 yard line
  • Area infront of front post - defend area infront of goal
The wingers cover areas at the front post (for short corner) and the back post (for overhit corner, ready for positive transition
Three players will man mark goal side any attacking players
Striker comes to side of the corner ready for positive transition
