Technical warm up (20 mins)

Arrival activity

3v1 floating rondo

Organisation:

·       As shown in the diagram, in a 20x20m area there are4 boxes, 10x10m each. Also, there are two mini-goals on each side of the largerarea.

·      Players are split into 4 in abox. Due to the group being larger, another two 10x10m boxes with mini-goalsare to be set up.

·      Players play a 3v1 rondo ineach box.

·      Aim of the practice is playersto progress their warm up into a game related movements where they need to makeshort sharp runs in space. Another aim of the practice is to be engaging forplayers at the very beginning of the session.

·      Players are to be encouraged tomaintain high intensity throughout so as to sustain the quality of the warm up.

1.    3v1 rondo

-       Once defender wins the ball,they swap with person that lost possession.

2.    3v1 rondo

-       Only this time once thedefender wins the ball they play 1v1 with person that lost the ball and have 5seconds to score.

3.    3v1 rondo

-       When the defender wins theball, they have to tag a player from the next grid that would go and play as adefender.

-       Q to players: What can you doto avoid being tagged while playing in your rondo?

Coaching points:

·      What is the reaction after youloose possession?

-       In the 1v1, can you reactquickly to recover the ball?

·      Encourage movements off theball and constant rotation within the grid

·      Encourage 1v1 duels where anattacker is cornered off and needs to escape


Warm up

Active stretching

Organisation:

·      2, 3-coned lines are set up andplayers work in threes.

·      Players perform activestretching exercises introduced by the captain.

Passing pattern (15 mins)

  • Aim of practice is to develop combination play through patient possession
  • Pattern works both for building an attack and switching play
1. Pass and follow2. 1-2 on each mannequin3. Pass -> set -> diagonalCP:
  • Game speed
  • Match realistic movement off the mannequin with dummy moves

Function: Playing out from the back (15 mins)

  • Numbers 1 and 2 illustrate respective progressions
  • Aim of practice is to replicate and develop wide play and finishing scenarios. Then it progresses to switching play and escaping pressure to crossing positions
  • For progression 1, central CM and ST join a rondo to make it 5v2
  • If defenders win the ball, can they break out from the area? =point
  • Players in possession need to complete a number of passes before progressing the ball
  • Play always starts from ball nest
1. Complete 4 passes -> progress for a cross- challenge is 4 passes + split pass2. 4 passes -> switch play through CM (group on right) or ST (group on left)CP:
  • Encourage rotations: overlap, KDB cross, crossing areas
