What: Gates is a possession game where the team in position attempts to score by passing and receiving through one of the several gates in a specfied area. General Rule of Thumb is to have one or two gates more than the number of players on a team (6 v 6 = 8 gates).

In any game with multiple gates to score through, the gates should be wide enough to prevent the defenders from a standing in the goals to defend. The idea is to incentivize the defenders to step to the ball to defend.

This is a Stage 2 activity.

Why: changing the point of attack, penetration with the pass.

Where: middle third of the field.

Who: All three lines.

When: Attacking and Transition phases.

Periodizaton:

Players --- Work Interval --- Recovery ---- Reps

5 to 7 ---- 3 to 6 min ------- 2 to 3 ----- 1 to 6

8 to 11 ----- 7 to 15 min ----- 2 to 3 ----- 1 to 4

General "Rule of Thumb," when the speed of play of an an activity drops, it is time for recovery.

The fewest number of players determines the duration of an activity.

Space will effect players actiions, which will affect speed of play.
