Organisation

1/2 pitch practice.

.Full width of the pitch and mini goals 10 yards beyond half way line.

3 areas of ball supply for quick restarts.

1 In the GK's goal.

2 Server at top of pitch between goals.

3 Balls down the touchline

.Teams will play in a (Reds) 4-2-3-1 but only using a 4-2-1 formation back 4, midfield 2 and 1 advanced midfielder (Whites) 4-4-2 formation using.( 2 full backs- midfield 4 and front 2)

.The session will be focussing on the red team having a twin screen and defending the main goal, while the white team trying to cause problems and attack the main goal.

. The session will last for 30 minutes and I will stop the session every 8 minutes to intervene by giving information to players and create additional problems for the reds.

Set up

The server will start with the ball playing the first pass to the white team to start the session.

White team

Looking to attack main goal .

Red Team

Defend the main goal, when retriving the ball they will look to score in the small goals. If they take too long to score then I would put a time restriction on how long they have. (15 seconds)

Problem 1 (10 mins)

Set the problem

White team have 2 strikers and the biggest problem is stopping the ball played into them.

Solution to the problem

Working as a midfield pair stopping the ball going into either striker. (cutting supply off into feet.

Rules

White full backs are only allowed 2 touches as they could make it a faulse practice.

Whites have a maximum of 5 passes before trying to find strikers.

Objectives.

Stopping ball getting into strikers and having the understanding of the importance of defending zone 14.

Coaching points.

Work as a pair.

Communication with each other and from defenders/goalkeeper behind them.

Filling spaces.

Body positions and depth from back 4 .

Be patient dont defend as individuals.

Problem 2 (10 mins)

Set Problem

White Full backs are allowed to get forward and create a 2v1 situation.

Solution to the problem

Nearest Red centre midfielder will come across to help Full Back whilst also trying to cut the pass off into strikers.

This will allow the Full Back to pick up the run of the whites overlapping player.

Red full back will show the attacking player inside to where our strengths are, however when they get near the 18 yard box he will then show the player down the line.

.Opposite Red midfielder will come across even further to stop pass into front man.

Back 4 will all shuffle across as shown in diagram.

Problem 3 (10 mins)

Set Problem

White midfielders are now encouraged to run beyond strikers.

Solution to the problem

Midfielder will follow runners or pass over to the centre backs .

It is import to have very good communication and working as units.

Trying to send the attack wide , but also realising that the midfielders will have to move across to help full backs who could be in a 2v1 situation

Reflection.

Players used:Llangynwydd 1st team

DESCRIPTION.. What happend.....

Using 16 players and 1 goalkeeper

Session worked well, the players involved picked up the defending principles very quickly. Full backs and more advanced mifielder also understood their roles and responsibilities.

After showing demonstrations and using a question and answer approach the team did take the information on board and the objectives were achieved very quickly.

Feelings....

Before.. I wasnt sure whether the session would be enjoyable for every player

During... Session started very bright. Movement was game realistic. Inculding the strikers movements to make runs across defenders.

During the 20 minute phase it was clear that they had took everything on board that I had asked of them.

After..Players realised they had forced the attacks wide and they were able to work as units to achieve this.

EVALUATION.

Good. Players understanding and their movment to effect the pass into strikers. Full backs covered well to help centre backs.

Bad. Not a lot. Defending players didnt communicate well on occassions and this led to 2 defenders marking 1 blue attacker a few times.

Analysis... How I influenced session....

Observing palyers and thier movement. Diagonsing problems as they arose in the function and reinforcing them in the phase.

Vocally giving instruction and just the odd reminders.

Conclusion...

Session worked well.

Action Plan..

Next time we conduct this session I will get players to come up with other movements . To cause defending players different problems.

Limitations..

No real limitations within the session.
