For assignment 6 of my UEFA B License course i was aksed to peform a match analysis on a team that i would be playing. From there i was then asked to design 2 session to work on for when i play them. This is one of the session that is to help my team set up against the opposition when it comes to corners and free kicks.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation
Working using half a park.
Ideally working with 22 players to get visual picture of organisation/set up for match days.
Activity
After performing a match analysis on the opposition that im going to play next. I identified that one of their main threats was set pieces (corners and free kicks).
In this component i first showed the team how i would like them to defend a corner now we are going to look at how we defend a freekick in a wide area.
Positions
Starting at the top end of the pitch we have the 1st striker staying up at the half way line on the last defender.
The 2nd defender will sit in the hole between the wall and the half way line.
The wall will then position themself on either side of the pitch in relation to the ball and where the GK wants them positioned.
Ideally then i would like a player just sitting infront of the defensive line marking the attackers to screen any balls into feet and to deal with any poor crosses.
Then the final defensive line which will position itself in relation to the ball. certain defenders (captain) may take charge or the GK may communicate with the defenders asking them to take up a position.
Finally the GK who must have a good starting position and be in constant communication with his team mates.
Coaching Points
Stay concentrated
Plenty of communication
Everyone must know their role
Be touch tight if man marking
Be brave and go and attack the ball
React to any second balls

Organisation
22 players - 20 outfield plus 2 gk.
11v11 (9v9 plus 4 floaters)
3 zones - defensive, middle and attacking 3rd.
Wide areas identified as well.
Activity
Defending in the final 3rd conditioned game (component 2).
3 zoned game 11 v 11 (9v9 with 4 floating players) working into the large goals.
Both teams set up in a 4-3-1 formation and 4 floating players on the outside (2 in each half).
Only when the team are in possession of the ball can they use the wide areas.
Defending team must stay within the lines and focus on being compact and narrow.
No defending players are allowed to enter the wide areas just work in relation.
Players can advance between the 3 zones but not drop back further than their original zone. (For example the midfielder can go and support the striker but can't drop back in to cover the defender).
Players on the outside must stay in their own half and not go into tackle to other floater.
When a floating player is in the middle zone they dont have a limit on touches but when they get into the final 3rd they have 2 touches to deliver a cross or make a pass.
Progression
Conditions are removed defending players can go into the wide areas to defend crosses and press the ball.
Players can also drop back a zone to help defend
Floaters are removed and 2 join each team to create 11v11 and move into a 4-4-2 formation.

Coaching Points
Players are looking to use coaching points learned in component 1.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation
Working with 22 players ideally but if not working with the players you have.
Working in just over half a park even though the picture shows different.
Activity
Now going into the phases of play part of the session.
Can play 11 v 11 or overload the attacking team (12v10)
Only working into 1 goal and having lots of phases of attacks.
Wanting to see the defending team show what they have learned in component's 1 and 2.
The attacking team will shoot into the goal and will have a feeder which will start play.
If the defending team win the ball they look to play into the feeder.
Each time the ball goes out unless it is a corner to defend the play will start from the feeder.
Coaching points
Same coaching points as component 1 and 2.

Component 1 - Defending Corners
Organisation
Working using half a park.
Ideally working with 22 players to get visual picture of organisation/set up for match days.
Activity
After performing a match analysis on the opposition that im going to play next. I identified that one of their main threats was set pieces (corners and free kicks).
In this component i will firstly show my team how i want them to set up when defending a corner.
Positions
First of all i will be looking for my goal keeper to be organising their team making sure everyone was doing their job.
There will be 2 players positioned on the posts. 1 at the front post and 1 at the back.
The next player depending on were the opposition is positioned can stand at the corner of the 6 yard box to prevent any crosses put into the front post. If there is a opposition player trying to disturb the GK this player will then pick up that opposition player.
From there it is then man to man marking in the box.
If and opposition player is sitting at the edge of the box for a possible cut back or looking to take advantage of any second balls one of the defenders should then pick them up at the edge of the box.
In my situation i play in a 4-4-2 formation so i have 2 strikers up front.
The first striker i would like to sit right up on the half way line and the other in the whole between the half way line and the edge of the box and on the side of were the corner kick is being taken.
This would be the same set up only replicated on the other side for when a corner is being taken from their.
