Technical Warm Up

Organization:

- 20x20 yard area.

- Ball between two.

Instructions:

- Players pass in pairs. On 5th pass, passing player applies pressure onto the ball. Players switch.

Coaching Points:

- Win the ball!

- Angle, speed and distance of approach

- Deny penetration

- Deny space, get touch tight

- Do not over commit

- Create 1 vs.1 scenario - isolate an opposition attacker

- Channel outside near goal, inside/outside in opposition half

- Recognise when to press, when not to press

- Read body language of 1st and 2nd attacker

- Decision based on ball carriers first touch/foot

- Select appropriate tackling technique - block, poke, slide

- Feint to challenge, encourage loose touch

Progressions:

- Attacker dribbles at defender

- Attacker dribbles away from defender

1 vs 1 + 1 in Attacking half review

Organization:

Field is split in half, 2 pug goals and 1 ball per field.

Instructions:

Players play 1 vs 1 to goal and have a support player in their attacking half.

Players play for 2/3 minutes before switching roles. Players play in a tournament format.

Coaching Points:

1. Not allowing the attacker to "commit you"

2. Not following ball when they pass

3. Recognize moments to cut of the +1 player to create a 1 vs 1

4. Recognize moments to win the ball

Progressions:

- Introduce time limit

- Introduce league table format

Instructions:

Same game but now the neutral players are in the defending half.

Coaching Points:

1. Starting position to block penetration

2. Looking to read cues of passing player to intercept

3. If can't intercept then prevent turn

-Close down quickly, slow down on approach( bend Knee)

-Keepin touching distance( hand inthe back)

-Match feet of the attacker.

4. Angle / Distance of pressure

5. Recognizing moments to win the ball and being patient( tackle or delay)

Conditioned Game

Organization:

- 30x20 yard playing area

- 2 teams

Instructions:

- Two teams play 4v4 small-sided game. Players can only score in opposition half.

Coaching Points:

- Win the ball!
