Show for the Ball Progression
Same action as before except now after showing for the return ball on an angle and receiving it across the body, we will pretend that there is pressure and the player can't receive and turn. Now they play the ball with the front foot, outside or toe, back to the outside passer. Then immediately show for the ball on the other side.
Progress by taking a outside passer off and making them the pressuring player on the field. They are not to tackle but look for opportunities to pressure players receiving the return passes. If no pressure then player should receive open body and move on.
Another option is for the coach to hold up two pinnies of different color. One represents turn, the other no turn. Player should be looking over their shoulder on that return pass and the outside player is open to the field already.

Two teams of 5, 6, or 7 in an appropriate grid, maybe 15yd - 25yd grid for my team.
One ball per team.
No standing, no walking.
Unlimited touches
2 touch
1 touch
3 touch
Can you alternate between 1 touch / 2 touch on every other pass?
How can we speed play up?
- less touches
- move toward the ball
- help each other out by effectively communicating
- position our body so as to see the most options
No excuses for balls going out of the grid, there's no defensive pressure yet. Basketball players don't fall into throw ball no do they? Punishment for errant pass, 2 down-up-ups (go to ground on belly, roll to back, cross arms, stand up with out using arms, 2 big imaginary jumping headers = 1 DUU) while ball is being retrieved.
A note on punishment and my style. I use punishment, but sparingly. I coach girls mostly. I find that intermittent reward and judicious praise are much better motivators than making them do something seen as punishment over and over. On the flip side there is a certain exception by the player or per-conceived notion that coaches are not doing their job and the player isn't getting the full experience if they don't run their butts off for doing wrong. Trying to force a group of alpha-females to one's will is about as easy as simultaneously giving a dozen cats a bath by yourself.

Possession with increasing pressure.
Now it's a game. One team (Blue) are the team in the Moment of In Poss and start dispersed around the grid. The Out Poss team (Red) start off the grid, in a line, close to coach.
The blue team are trying to connect passes.
5 passes = 1 goal + each pass after the 5 = 1 goal.
Passes must be counted aloud.
The passes must be continuous without interruption.
After the first pass, one defender may enter the field each time a pass is completed.
The count is reset as are the defenders if;
a. the ball goes out of bounds or
b. the ball is intercepted and controlled by the defenders completing at least 2 passes before dribbling it out of bounds or passing to coach.
Play for predetermined amount of time.
Keep score.
Switch roles of teams.
Defenders may need to be restricted in the beginning to only blocking passes and no tackling.
If the abstract nature of the movements is too much, playing from end zone to end zone can give more structure.
Increase and decrease speed of play with unlimited thru 1 touch restrictions. If they could handle alternating in the previous exercise, introduce the idea of rhythm. 2,2,1 or 3.2.1. or 1,2,1,2..
Coaching points for this session include; Speed of play/# of touches, passing with pace, 1st touch, body shape, taking looks constantly, playing the way you face - face the way you want to play, giving angles of support, Principles of Attack, Can you take advantage of the transition period when the defenders and count are reset?
Def/Out Poss coaching points: make play predictable, work together, communicate freely, can you find opportunities to apply a double team? If getting caught in transition at resets, is there a better way to organize so that they don't get a bunch of free passes?

Full Team Rondo End Zone to End Zone
10v4 3 Zone Rondo with Target players in the end zones and unopposed supporting wingers.
Players must stay in their zones.
Red is trying to move the ball from end zone to end zone with at least one touch per zone, wingers don't count.
Blue is trying to disrupt play and add pressure. If possession is won, blue can get the ball to either target player for a D point. 3 D points and the Def switches out. (Reversible pinnies are good here) Switch out Def when energy is lost. Def and Center mids should be rotated regularly with target, wingers and non-middle zone players regularly regardless of D points.
Play is continuous, if a D point is earned, Red should assume build out shape and the target players next pass is to red and blue is back to defense.

Show For the Ball
Show for the Ball
Divide the team in half. One group evenly arranged around the grid, the other inside the grid dribbling.
Dribbling players are looking for open players around the outside to pass to and receive a pass back from.
- eye contact
- show for the return ball on an angle
- open body position
- over shoulder look
- receive return pass across body/ open to the field
How does proximity to a side line or corner affect how you will open up your body shape to see the most field?
