Cut back area
Explanation
It is important that the goalkeeper recognises the difference between a cutback start position and a narrow crossing start position.
When the ball is in the shaded white area the goalkeeper should look to come to the near post and start to square up to the ball in order to defend the blue line. M3rd 3-4 yard from near post (Goal 1)
When the ball is in the red shaded area the goalkeeper must adjust to a half space position so that they can deal with a ball stood up towards central and back post areas as well as defending the space in front.
Too often the goalkeeper comes to a cutback position(Near post) when the ball is in the red shaded area. The goalkeeper then cannot influence or defend anything played to the back post
