Cut back area

Explanation

It is important that the goalkeeper recognises the difference between a cutback start position and a narrow crossing start  position.

When the ball is in the shaded white area the goalkeeper should look to come to the near post and start to square up to the ball in order to defend the blue line. M3rd 3-4 yard from near post (Goal 1)

When the ball is in the red shaded area the goalkeeper must adjust to a half space position so that they can deal with a ball stood up towards central and back post areas as well as defending the space in front.

Too often the goalkeeper comes to a cutback position(Near post) when the ball is in the red shaded area. The goalkeeper then cannot influence or defend anything played to the back post

Situational-Cutbacks

Explanation

Within four passes between central blue and red players. Red looks to slide a pass between CB & LB/RB for wide player to run onto. Within 3 touches wide player looks to drive into the marked area and look to score by

1. Beating the goalkeeper with a shot- 1 point

2. Beating the goalkeeper between the near post and the yellow cone-3 points

3 Cut the ball back for the attacking player(red) to score

Once the ball goes into the wide area the game is live with both red players and the blue defender joining in to create attacking scenario.

If the blue team clears the ball from the 18 yard box/or ball goes out of playing area from poor delivery etc. Coach on  the edge of the box takes a touch out of feet and shot for second phase strike.
