Problems & Solutions:
Defenders are too narrow - Defenders need to be as wide as the 6 yard box
Build up play is too predictable - Allow rotations between Midfielders/Striker for combination play as long as there is someone else in the strikers zone
Reference points:
GK middle of the 6 yard box
CB's level with width of 6 yard box
WB's height of the box, maximum width
DM's in front of the CB's out side the box

Large Sided Game:
Formation:
Red - 1-4-3-3 without 2 Wingers
Blue - 1-4-3-3 without 2 Full Backs
Practice Transitions into a LSG using 3/4 of the field. Players keep their positions with reds gaining 2 full backs to support in build up and breaking lines. Blues gain two CB's and a GK to help defend and build up to score, alongside two wingers to stretch the pitch and provide a wide outlet. Red team is still trying to build out from GK and score in blue goal, while blues are trying to press high and win from goal kick.
Conditions:Play restarts from Red Goalkeeper every time. Blue CF can't enter the box to press the ball from Goal Kick until it is played
Coaching Points - Coached Team (Red Team):
Play through (1st Priority), around (2nd), then over (3rd)
Play forward whenever possible
Use goalkeeper as a pivot to build up
LCB is playing on their Left foot when building up and vice versa for RCB to create better passing angles
Off the ball movement to break lines e.g. CF moves into channel to play over
Receiving the ball in space
Opposition Management (Blue Team)
Press as a Team - if CF goes to press high can you step up and go man to man, if they don't drop back and defend compactly leaving less than 10 yards between the linesReturn to positions within 3 seconds when ball goes dead.
Problems & Solutions:
Problem: Opposition high press lead by forwards - Move the ball quickly and exploit the spaces created through around or over
Problem: Opposition sit deeper and wait for triggers to press - Patient build up, centre backs switch play side to side to force a mistake and create space to exploit
Reference points:
GK middle of the 6 yard box
CB's level with width of 6 yard box
WB's height of the box, maximum width
DM's in front of the CB's out side the box
CM's ahead of DM starting width of 6 yard box to create a box midfield
ST centre circle on the near side

Specific Practice
Breaking Lines:
Game begins with GK playing ball into Red centre backs. Red team is trying to break the lines by playing through around or over the Blue team. When Red team is breaking the lines they can either play the ball into their Centre Forward or try to play forward and then score in one of the mini goals. Blue team is trying to win the ball back and then score in the goal.
Rules:
Blue Centre forward cannot enter the box until the ball has been played.
