PLAY MAKER (60 mins)
SET UP:
3 ZONES; Defensive third, mid third, attacking third.
Two teams 5 v 5. (2 x GK). Directional. 3 v 3 in mid third. 1 sweeper in each of the defensive thirds.
OBJECTIVE:
Teams take turns to start with the ball. Playing from the defensive third in to the mid third. One player breaks out to attack the sweeper 1 v 1 in the defensive third. If the opposition win the ball their objective is the same.
PROGRESSION: Time limit for attacking team. PROGRESSION: Two touch before breaking out with a dribble. PROGRESSION: Rotate all players. PROGRESSION: Time limit for attacker to score after breaking out. PROGRESSION: Points awarded for successfully scoring/ defending. PROGRESSION: Allow a defender to recover. PROGRESSION: Allow an additional attacker to break out creating a 2 v 2.
Coaching Points:
Understanding the role/responsibility.
Decision making, press, delay, interception.
Movement across the defensive third to recognise point of danger/attack.
Communication with mid third to deny any space and protect the defensive line.
Delay attack for recovery run of additional defender.
Show attacker away from goal/weaker side.
Win 1 v 1 challenge under pressure.
Win possession and be positive, setting team up for the counter attack.
Composure in possession, pass selection, penetrating pass.
