In this scenario, the opponent midfielders are pressed high on the strong side.
Ball carrier has time on the ball.
Target players are in Yellow.
Notice the opposite checked runs from the 2 strikers, one showing low to feet, the other pulling off the mark and making the run high in behind along with the Attacking Mid. The weak side midfielder should also be open if we can hit them with a switch of play. The runs from the targets are made before the ball is played. When the ball carrier gets their head up, they need to see movement from the targets asking to feet or asking in behind over the top.

Building Through the 3rds
You can look at our initial shape as a 4-4-2 Diamond, or a 3-5-2 (we are in possession), or a 4-3-3 (4-1-2-3)
The concept of working the ball between the wide targets to create gaps to play penetrating passes through applies here.
The next part of the puzzle is our ACTIVE-SIDE STRIKER SHOWS LOWER JUST BEHIND MIDFIELD UNIT, which allows the Attacking Mid or 2nd Striker to make runs in behind the dropping striker as seen in this animation, and gives our defensive ball carriers the option to hit deeper targets beyond the midfielders when breaking lines with passes.
