Warm Up (10 mins)

Warm Up

Everything is done twice

  • Jogging
  • side steps
  • high knees on the way up - butt kicks on the way back
  • High kicks on the way up - Sweeps on the way back
  • Lunges
  • Open the gate on the way up - Close the gate on the way back
  • left foot hops on the way up - right foot hops on the way back
  • Jockeying backwards
  • shuttle sprints to finish

Rondos (15 mins)

Rondos

Set up

  • split the group in two 
  • one team start possession every 3 passes a new/added defender comes in 
  • every time the possession team get a defender in there grid it equals a point 
  • If the pressing team win the ball and score they cancel out the points gained by the pressing team
  • If the pressing team don't choose the score they can play the ball into their grid and the game continues 
  • do a best of three rounds with each round - short sharp and competitive 
Coaching Points
  • Ball Speed - everything the players do is done with the best tempo and positive purpose 3 touch Max
  • Body shape - Looking to receive on the half turn when possible
  • Back Foot receive to allow switches of play
  • Off the Ball Movement - Support play for the player on the ball for the man in the middle
  • Breaking Lines - Look to play forward Though the lines

Passing Practice sequence 


  • Balls start from the end parts of the drill 2 balls start the game working from the right hand side 
  • coach half way through gets the group to work the left side 
  • Players follow their pass in the alphabetical order
  • Player A plays to Player B 
  • Player B bounces to Player A
  • Player A plays to Player C
  • Player C bounces to Player B 
  • Player B plays to Player D
  • Player D bounces to Player C
  • Player C plays to the other Player A

  • Ball Speed - everything the players do is done with the best tempo and positive purpose 2 touch Max - Weight of pass is important 
  • Body shape - Looking to receive on the half turn when possible
  • Back Foot receive to allow switches of play
  • Off the Ball Movement - timing of runs to come play combination passes - coming off the cone 
  • Breaking Lines - Look to play forward Though the lines

Playing Out Game

Principles Of Play


• Controlled build-up play
• Finding the spare player in an attacking overload
• Regaining the ball immediately on possession loss

Set Up


  • Split the group into two teams one team with a goal keeper and one without 
  • Teams are split into two groups an attacking front three and a back four related to the shape of the team in a 4-3-3
  • The pitch is split in half
  • Players are locked in their half of the field or if they are the attackers locked in the central box
  • The objective is for the defenders to build out by switching the ball from side to side and then play into the gates 
  • once the defenders have played through the gates and the ball goes to the other side that teams attackers press the other team and if they win the ball look to go and score in either the big goal or small goals depending on the side they are attacking 
  • half way through the session swap the teams round so both teams get the chance to play with and against the goalkeeper
Progression 
  • To Add in that holding midfielder element into the practice one of the attackers can drop in to support the play

Coaching Points 

  • Always refer the players to our basic levels of Principles of Play 
  • Ball Speed - everything the players do is done with the best tempo and positive
  • Body shape - Looking to receive on the half turn when possible
  • Back Foot receive to allow switches of play
  • Off the Ball Movement - to exploit the space either coming short or in behind
  • Breaking Lines - Look to play forward beyond the defender
  • Defender looks to press with purpose
  • Awareness to when to win the back - to when receive
  • Awareness of using the whole grid to exploit the space

Unit coaching Points 


Goalkeeper 
  • Support the players if need to - links to length Width and Depth when in possession '
  • Decision making - Playing the right pass 
  • Breaking the line into the midfielder

Defenders 
  • High and wide when goalkeeper is in possession of the ball
  • Look to receive on the half turn 
  • decision making - when to break lines/Penetrate - when to keep possession
Holding Midfielder
  • Get in-between the strikers 
  • stay high to allow breaking line pass
  • confidence to get on the ball 
  • back foot receive to drive forward
