Technical Warm-Up 1 (10 mins)

Organisation:

  • 16 players - 8 outside as servers with a ball and 8 inside as receivers
  • Inside players look to play a 1-2 with an outside player before returning to the centre square and finding another server.
  • Rotate every 30 seconds.
  • Have a variety of pass types: volleys, headers, chest and volley, thigh and volley

Attacking KP's:

  • Play with head up - awareness
  • Quality Passing - Accuracy, Weight & Timing
  • Communication
Questions:
  • What should we do before we call for the ball? (scan)
  • What other information can we tell our teammate?

3v3-3v2 (10 mins)

Organisation: 

  • 9 players - 3 teams of 3 players
  • 2 teams are attacking (keeping possession) and the other (blue in this case) is defending
  • Coach starts play by passing into one of the attacking teams.
  • Attacking team look to make 10 passes to score 1 goal.
  • If defending team regain possession, they look to score in any of the mini-goals.
  • Rotate roles every 2-3 minutes.

Modify: 

  • Increase/decrease number of passes required to score.
  • Instead of scoring, the defending team become at attacking team, with the team who lost possession now becoming the defending team.
  • Instead of scoring in mini-goals, defending team look to make # of passes to score on regaining possession. 
Attacking KPs:
  • Quality Passing - Weight, Timing, Accuracy
  • Play with head up - scan
  • Body shape - open
  • Movement from teammates
  • Angles/Distance of Support
  • Communication

Defending KPs:
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' on approach to the attacker
  • Show wide/away from goal
  • Block passing lanes
  • Compact
Transition KPs:
  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)
Questions:
  • How can you create space for your teammate on the ball?
  • What sort of movement or run can you make?
  • Where is the space on the field?
  • Who should press and why?
  • What are the other defenders doing?

Between the Lines SSG (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • 4v4+GK's SSG.
  • Central zone can only be occupied by an attacking player.
  • Defenders cannot leave their zone. 
  • At least 1 defender must remain in defensive half when his teammates attack. 

Modify:

  • Can make 3v3/5v5
  • Remove GK's, use mini-goals
Attacking KPs:
  • Quality Passing - Weight, Timing, Accuracy
  • Play with head up - scan
  • Body shape - half turn
  • Movement from teammates
  • Angles/Distance of Support
  • Communication

Defending KPs:
  • Nearest player presses
  • 2nd/3rd player covers/gives balance
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' on approach to the attacker
  • Show wide/away from goal
Transition KPs:
  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)
Questions:

  • How can you create space for your teammate on the ball?
  • What sort of movement or run can you make?
  • Where is the space on the field?
  • Which defender should press first and why?
  • What is the other defender doing?
  • How can we create space near the opponent's goal?

5v5 SSG (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • 10 players - 5v5 SSG.
  • Rotate goalkeepers regularly.
  • Place balls around the area for quick restart.
  • When ball goes out of play, dribble or pass the ball back into play.
Modify:
  • 1 player from the defending team must stay in the opponents half at all times, this player can change and doesn't have to be the same each time.
  • 1 player from attacking team must stay in their half at all times, this player can change and doesn't have to be the same each time.

  • Quality Passing - Accuracy, Weight & Timing
  • Width & Depth
  • Movement
  • Awareness - Scanning

  • Pressure - how and who?
