SMALL SIDED GAME 4V4 HALF FIELD CROSSING FOCUS

4V4 half field. 4 attackers and 4 defenders. The defending team has a target player (yellow) in which they can utilize to counter. If the attacking team gains possession, they may look to finish more immediately or utilize the wide players who must serve another cross. If the goalkeeper secures the ball or defending team wins it, the objective is to once finish in one of the three mini goals

Start out with two wide attacking players serving from a stationary area. Progress where they can dribble down the line for a cross (3 touch ,max)

40x30 area as needed

Two teams of players. One team plays with two target players while the other team play with two wide players. 

Therefore, one team is looking to play forwards and one team is looking to play wide

Goal: To encourage ball possession in high pressure situations

Three minute sessions. Two minutes rest

One team attacks, the other defends.

8-10 passes in a row = 1 point

If defensive team steals the ball, they attempt to immediately score on the large goal

Maximum three touches in field. Neutrals have one touch

RESTART GAME

Divide players into two teams. During a training scrimmage, the coach will call an equal number of restarts and free kicks for both teams. Points are awarded for the effectiveness of the restarts as follows:

AMOUNT OF FREE KICKS AND RESTARTS GIVEN TO EACH TEAM

  • 2 Corner kicks
  • 4 direct free kicks (2 from the flank and two near the penalty box
  • 2 indirect free kicks
  • 1 penalty kick
Goals scored from the run of play are worth 2 points. the team with the highest total number of points at the end of the game is the winner

How points are awarded

ATTACKING FREE KICKS OR RESTARTS

  • Free Kick/Restart shot on goal = 1 point
  • Free Kick/Restart goal scored= 3 points (including rebounds)

DEFENDING FREE KICKS OR RESTARTS
  • Defending a restart or free kick that results in a counter attack with a shot on goal = 3 points
  • Defending a restart or free kick that results in a goal = 6 points

3v2 start in starting zone. The overload is in favor of the attacking team

2v1 start in the central zone in favor of the defending team

The attacking team are looking to play into their teammate in the central zone. They will then join in with support runs and attempt to score in the goal

The defending team are looking to win the ball and score in one of two target goals

Progression:

Start with 1v1s in the central zone (2 attackers, 2 defenders

Start with a 3v3 in the start zone
