Diamond Passing

SetUp:

- 9 red cones to make 4 boxes as shown

- 16 blue cones to make 4 diamonds as shown

+ PLAYERS ARE SET INTO GROUPS OF 5 OR 6 OR 7. ( IDEALLY 5) @ EACH DIAMOND

+ 1-2 BALLS IN PLAY AT EACH DIAMOND AT ONE TIME.

+ PASSING TO BE MADE ROUND OUTSIDE OF CONES

Points:

- get players to take appropriate touches. This is not a 1 touch passing drill.

Pass and go (10 mins)

Simple pass round. ( 10 minute drill - 5 minutes going one way and change direction)

players pass the ball round the outside of the circle using TWO touches. After player has played the pass, they move round to the next cone.

Add in an additional ball when it becomes easy.

Looking for:

- players showing for the ball

- players being vocal asking for the ball and letting a team mate know its coming

- good first touch with the correct foot to open body up

Diamond 1-2 option

Adding in a 1-2 variation.

1= starting player passes to player 2 at the first station

2= This player plays a short pass into space for first player to run on to

3= play the pass down to player 3 at the third station.

4= Player lays ball back to player 2 running onto it

5= player passes it down to next player

Movement of players:

Players move round on station at a time

Tip:

players receiving the pass at the cones lay it back to player between the passer and themself.
