Winger - Crossing
Game Model
- Confidence to take the ball
- Decision making to play through, around, over
Organization
- 2 Wingers, 2 GK, 4 Blue, 4 Red
- X4 Blocks, 3 Minutes
- Rotate each block working with either winger
- When wingers are in shaded area they are unopposed ( 5 Seconds time constraint to deliver the ball )
Coaching:
- 4v4 in the middle with 2 GK
- Players in the middle are only allowed 3 touches to increase the tempo
- Wingers are on the outside in shaded areas
- Both wingers are neutral
- No attackers or defenders can enter the wingers areas ( Until Progression )

Aims
- Encourage wingers to look up before crossing to asses where strikers are going to run.
- Aims for wingers to hit front space, cut back or back post ( Reference points using spots )
- Strikers must time their movements and make sure each move into different these areas
- Wingers have reference points to hit and strikers must get there when team in possession
Progressions
( Block 4 ) Closest player from team out of possession can role out into wide area to create 1v1 situation for full back
Wingers Crossing Detail
Types:
- Whipped Cross
- Driven
- Lofted
- Pull Back
Technique:
- Wrap foot around the ball using side of your foot
- Using laces to strike through the ball
- Using side of the foot and strike across but under the ball
- Looking up before crossing and using side of the foot to pull the ball back
Decision Making:
- Identifying where the space is and where player is before delivering the ball
Incentive For Wide Players:
- Wide players have 10 points if they use weaker foot to cross
Management
- High repetitions so its important to have balls ready for the flow of the session
- Use con currant feedback to wingers to prevent stopping the session and letting it flow
- Use of concurrent feedback to drive competition between the players.
- Walk throughs and demonstrations to give players understanding of what we are doing
- Keeping the session at match tempo for realism
