Attacking build up play - CF's movement to goal (30 mins)

Instructions:

Combinations

6 starts the drill and plays into to 10 / 7 / 8 or even directly in 9 / 11 if they make a run to dictate this.

Objective is trying to get 10 free into space to play the ball into 2 CF's or to shoot at goal.

10 drives and plays into space for 9 / 11.

2 CF's must work as a partnership and develop and understanding of runs they shoudl be making.

* If one drops drop to receive the ball can the other CF make a run into the area vacated looking to receive a ball off the no 10 of MF if laid back.

* Front post and back post runs if ball in wide area.

* Creating space away from the defender and in behind to receive a pass.

* Dictate where you want the ball to be played.

Progression

- Combination between 9 /11 /10. Quick short one two.

Must have end quality end product at least working the GK.

Key points

- Angles and Distances

- Creating space

- CF's switch

- Playing between the lines

- Movement off ball

- Decision making

- Quality of pass

- Width and depth

Possible combinations for drill;

6 always first player to receive ball... Always encourage deep lyer to turn and play forwards

1. 6 try to play no.10 as much as possible as first pass. From the no.10 playing with back to goal can he play to the either the left or the right of the MF in 2 touches.

Trigger for the R and L of the MF is soon as the ball goes into 10s feet, can they progress to be an option without being marked tight. Can they get goal side of their opposition. Desire to make this run.

From the R or L can we play a CF's feet. CF playing with back to goal, The ball going to the CF's feet is the trigger for the no.10 to make run for a set shot on the edge of the box/ D area. OR for the other CF to make a run into the space the other CF has left and receive a thorugh pass from no 10.

What if? The ball can't be played to the No.10... See next combination starting from DL.

Still working with current combination... What if No.10 cant play R or L of the MF, hold ball up and play back to the DL and now attempt combination 2 Or...Depending on awareness of no.10 if drops off deep enough to turn, can he face goal and either beat the blue DL or link up with the CF's. If no.10 turns and beats the blue DL, can CF split to create space for no.10 to shoot. OR make a run for a ball to be played in behind the back 4.

What if?... R or L of the MF cannot play to CF feet. Options.. can the R or L beat their man or create a crossing opportunity. At crossing opportunity CF's to attack front and back post and no.10 to attack between the edge of the 18 and penalty spot.

Or.. Play back to no.10 if no.10 is able to find space away from blue DL without reducing the space for CF's to receive the ball.

Suggest possible switch of the CF's when the ball goes from no.10 to the R or L of the MF to allow for space to receive the ball if being marked to tight.

Last option-Recycle. R or L of the MF turns and plays pivot pass to DL who then opens up and plays out the other side. Ball being played back to the DL is the trigger for the opposite side of the MF to find space and recieve ball. Considering the width of the movement to open up the opposition midfield to potentially play no.10 from the DL.

If combination 1 isn't an option to play mo.10 directly due to being marked to tightly, can the no.10 switch with R or L of the MF for them to receive the ball centrally and break the line.OR if the no10 leave the central area create space for one CF to come into to receive the ball.

Trigger for R and L- As soon as DL turns on the ball communicate with 10 and switch. If R of the MF comes in, the L

4-3-1-2 Press, Win Ball, Retain Possession (30 mins)

Objective;

The players work on keeping possession after the transition from defence to attack in the 4-3-1-2 formation.

Description;

In a 35 x 35 yard area, we have 2 teams. The yellow team all 8 players inside the area using a 2-3-3 formation (from the 4-3-3) The Red team have 10 players in a 4-3-1-2 formation. 2 CB’s, 2 FB’s and 2 CF’s are positioned outside the area in the positions shown per the formation and the 4 CM’s are inside the area.

The session starts with the yellow team in possession and they play a 8v4 inside the area and aim to complete Score (1 point) 10 consecutive passes (2 point) or keep the ball for 30 seconds (3 points)

The 4 red CM’s try to win the ball back or force the opposition into making a wrong decision. If the reds win the ball they have to either score in goal (1point) keep possession against the yellow team, using the outside players to support (8 consecutive passes = 3 goals)

When the yellow team are in possession, the red team should be encouraged to enter the area (no more than 1 red at any time) if the ball is played into an area they are outside the area. E.g. a yellow CB has the ball so therefore 1 red CF can enter the area to apply pressure.

Rules;

1.The red outside players are not allowed inside the area. ( 1 can go in and help apply pressure)

2.The yellow players and the red outside players are limited to 2 touches.

Coaching Points;

1.The red CM’s (numerical disadvantage) need to press as a unit to limit space / time and win the ball.

2.After the reds recover the ball, they need to ensure possession is retained. Showing – speed, quality of pass, good decision making, communication, distances for support play, correct angles to press and also to pass.

3. Reds look to role into fake fullback position if fullbacks go high.

Progression

As set up earlier we now mark out 3 zones on a full pitch and we use 2 full size goals and the 2 GK’s.

Description;

The session starts with the yellow CB (4 or 5) and the yellow teams aim is to score a goal.

The red team must defend well in the low zone, try to win the ball and then make a quick transition from defence to attack (under pressure from the yellow team)

A minimum of 2 red players should leave the larger zone to the 2 CF’s and launch a fast break, finishing within 10-12 seconds.

Important players play within the shape of the system.

Rules;

1.The 8 yellow players in the large zone can only track back once the ball has crossed the halfway line.

2.The 2 yellow CB’s are allowed to enter the CF’s zone and apply pressure to try and win the ball.

3. 1 Red CF can enter the large zone to apply pressure to a FB only.

4.A yellow goal scores 1 point and a red goal scored 2 points if it scored within 10-12 seconds.

Coaching Points;

•The red players need to pressure as a unit to limit space / time in the first phase to win the ball.

•There needs to be a rhythm to the timing of movement / runs, combined with good communication.

•Players need to use quality and effective finishing in front of goal. Confidence. Good first touch important.
