The role of the 10 is to link the play between the defence and the attackers. He should be positive and creative in possession and always look for innovative ways to create chances. His movement will be excellent to find pockets of space in between the lines of the opposition. He will support the target 9 and contribute his fair share of goals.
Research players such as Platini, Zico, Cruyff.
The target 9 will lead the attack as the furthest forward player. The modern player will be mobile and work accross the defensive line. When out of possession he becomes the territorial player but very much still involved in the game. He is the first line of defence and will press the opposition in the defensive third. He will be hungry for goals and will look to hold the ball up for team mates supporting runs. Likewise he will link the play in the attacking and mid thirds.

Playing through the thirds is a possession based tactical strategy to move the ball from back to front. It requires intelligent movement aligned with accurate weighted passing. Players will need to recognise the triggers to adjust their body shape to receive and play with soft feet. Creating angles and the timing of supporting runs is also key.

Players tactical names
To simplyfy the explananation I am only using three players.
The 5 in possession of the ball is known as the PRIMARY PLAYER.
The 3 is known as the SECONDARY PLAYER as he is nearest to the primary player.
The 9 is known as the TERRITORIAL PLAYER as he is furthest from the primary player.
I also refer to this as "on the ball, around the ball & away from the ball."
