Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Defending 2v2

Ultimate Defender (15 mins)

Organization:

- Players split into groups of 3/4

- Lane created for each group - 6x6 box with start and finish cone at either end.

- Attackers positioned at start/end cones

- Defender inside box

Instructions:

- Attackers attempt to take the ball from one side to the other by dribbling through defenders box. Defender must remain in the box at all times. Once attacker enters box, defender is "live".

- Attackers have the option to penetrate through the side of the box (1 point), or through the end (3 points).

- Once successfully through the box, attacker dribbles the ball to next attacker to continue in opposite direction.

- If defender steals the ball and passes it to the next attacker they get 3 points. if they just kick out the box is 1 point. 

- After 2 minute rounds, players rotate defenders. 

Coaching Points:

- Small touches on approach to defender

- Head up to identify defenders positioning/space

- Change of speed and direction to beat defender

- Bigger exit touch to break line

Condition Game (20 mins)

Organization:

- 2 teams.

- 2 gates 35 years from goal.

Instructions:

- Blue team will score in big net and yellow team will score by dribbling through one of the gates.

- Throw ins

- No Corners for Yellow (they will start back from the goalie).

- Blue team will play corners.

- Team switch sides after 10 minutes. 

- Team with the most goals after adding scores from both rounds wins.

Coaching Points:

- Defending principles. Focusing more on the "Yellow" team to help them protect the big net and build out from the back by dribbling or passing.

- Finding shooting opportunities quickly.

- Can we look up to dribble if not play our teammate so we play the other way.
