Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Finishing

Finesse finishing (20 mins)

Session Organisation:

• In a 20x20 yard area, set up one large goal with 4 mannequins spaced out 5 yards apart in a diamond formation.

• Place 2 markers 8-10 yards from the centre of the diamond depending on the players needs.
• Split into two teams on each mat.
• Each player will need a ball apart from the first receiving player. 

Instructions:

• The practice begins with the player receiving making a diagonal run between the mannequins.

• The player in possession must time the pass for the on running player to receive.
• The receiving player has one touch to take beyond the mannequin and shoot on goal.
• After shooting, the player who played the pass now makes the next run and the opposite team play the pass, alternating each time.
• Repeat process for 4x3 minute rounds, switching sides each round.

Coaching Points:

• The player making the run triggers the pass.. Not the other way around.

• Eye contact and communication to help with timing.
• Receive back foot with one touch to take beyond the mannequin.
• Touch to the left is a left foot finish, touch to the right is a right foot finish.
