Animation 1 (10 mins)

PRACTICE

  • Area sizes: Large (48x36 yds), Medium (40x30 yds), Small (32x24 yds).
  • Set up the field with three mannequins in the center and two end zones at each side as shown in the video.
  • The practice involves 12 outfield players, split into 3 groups of 4 players each.
  • Objective: The aim is to transfer the ball from one end zone to the other using the central player, who receives the ball beyond the mannequins.
  • Rotate the roles of the players after each round.

PRACTICE FOCUS

  • Central player: Must pass to outside players using two touches.
  • Outside players: Stay mobile when in possession and must pass to another player in the same end zone.
  • Central players: Receive the ball and play it out with an angled pass. They cannot receive the ball immediately after passing it out.
  • Physical load: Adjust area sizes based on physical demands. Larger areas promote high-intensity sprints, while smaller areas focus on accelerations and decelerations.

COACHING POINTS

  • Scan: Always be aware of the ball, coach, and any dangers, while preparing for the next move.
  • Support: Move quickly into a supporting position beyond the mannequins.
  • Supply: Deliver sharp passes to the back foot of your teammate.

PRACTICE

  • Area sizes: Large (40x18 yds), Medium (32x14 yds), Small (24x10 yds).
  • Set up the field as shown in the video with two end zones and a central zone.
  • The practice includes 12 outfield players, divided into three teams of four.
  • One team supports the team in possession as target players on either end, while two players are locked in the central zone.
  • Objective: Transfer the ball from one target player to the other by utilizing the players in the central zone.
  • All players remain locked into their starting zones.
  • Rotate the roles after each round.

PRACTICE FOCUS

  • Defensive entry: Start by allowing one defending player to enter the central zone to press and win the ball, then progress to allowing two defenders to enter.

  • Free movement: Progress to allowing all players (except target and central zone players) to move freely across the area.

  • Touch limitation: Limit the touches of the target players to increase difficulty.

  • Physical load: Adjust the area sizes according to physical goals. Use larger areas for sprints and distances, and smaller areas to emphasize accelerations and decelerations.

COACHING POINTS

  • Scan: Always be aware of the ball, the pressing defender, and your next move.
  • Support: Quickly move into supporting positions beyond the pressing line.
  • Supply: Execute quick, sharp passes to the back foot of teammates.

PRACTICE STRUCTURE

  • Area sizes: Large (48x30 yds), Medium (40x24 yds), Small (32x18 yds).
  • Set up the pitch as shown in the video with one large goal at each end and a central zone.
  • The practice includes 12 outfield players and 2 goalkeepers. Split the outfield players into two teams of 5.
  • The remaining 2 players work in the central zone with the team in possession.
  • Objective: Both teams aim to score by passing through the central zone players.
  • All players remain locked in their starting zones. Once the ball enters the central zone, one player from the team in possession can leave the defensive half and join the attack.

PRACTICE PROGRESSION

  • Progression 1: Allow one defending player to enter the central zone to press and win the ball.
  • Progression 2: One midfielder from the team in possession can enter either the attacking zone or the build-up zone to support play.

COACHING POINTS

  • Scan: Always be aware of the ball, the pressing defenders, and the next move.

  • Support: Move quickly into supportive angles beyond the pressing line.

  • Supply: Use quick, sharp passes into the back foot of teammates.

  • Physical load: Adjust the area sizes depending on the physical outcomes. Larger areas promote sprints and longer distances, while smaller areas emphasize quick accelerations and decelerations.
