Organization:

  • set up 3 (23 players) 
  • 15 mins 

Instructions:

  • 1. A-C-A-B-D-A rotation counterclockwise ABDCA
  • 2. other side A-B-A-C-D-A rotation clockwise ACDBA
  • 3. see screen 2 

Coaching Points:

  • separation movement, on your toes 
  • communication 
  • timing to open up (for example: when player B needs to open up to take first touch - once A receives) 
  • body positioning 
  • passing to the correct foot, weight of pass 
  • scanning

Organization:

  • as shown above 
  • set up 2 - 10x12 or 10x15 grid 
  • 1 grid 11 players , 2nd grid 12 players - rotate in each rep 
  • 20-25 min 

Instructions:

  • Red player by small goal plays the ball in to either CM, CM must play blue player by small goal 
  • Red player that played the ball in can defend as soon as he plays ball in 
  • Blue player by small goal can move along the line 
  • Red scores on small goal, Blue scores by passing into or dribbling into zone 

Coaching Points:

  • quick separation from defender, countermovements, movement off the ball  
  • decision making for first touch to dribble or pass 
  • communication 
  • scanning before receiving, scanning while on the ball after first touch 
  • protecting the ball/body between player and ball to give time to my teammate to give me an option 
  • when to retain possession vs when to penetrate 

Progressions:

  • add another defender if too easy

Screen 4

Organization:

  • 8v7 + #9 target player (can be used for possession by blue team) 
  • coach KK with balls on the side 
  • target team blue: 1-3-2-2
  • red two 6's, 3 up top, and 2 full backs 
  • subs rotate every 3-4 outs - rotate #9 after each round 
  • 25 min 

Instructions:

  • Blue must find target player to score = 1 pt  
  • Red can score 1 pt by putting 5 passes together and 2 points for scoring 
  • 4x 4-5 min- loser has push ups/fitness every round 

Coaching Points: 

  • quick separation from defender, countermovements, movement off the ball
