Playing in behind a high defensive line. 11v11 game (20 mins)
Full pitch. Split into 3 zones. 11v11.
The red zone is the high defensive line for red team. Safe zone for white team is 18 yard line. third zone is attacking zone for white team.
Game always starts with whites in possession who build up under pressure from the red team. Objective of white team is advance the ball under pressure into the attacking third, keeping possession. If the red team win possession the have 10 seconds to score. This forces quick transition to defence for whites.
Progression:
Whites must make 6 passes before playing into attacking third.
Ball must not go above waist height
Coaching Points:
Body on half turn to see opponents and see next pass and play forward.
Decision making.
Making space. Checking away to receive in tight space
Vertical passes. Effective moving ball forward quickly and taking defenders out of the game
Switch of play. Use full width of pitch for switching play with short passes to move defenders.
Be alert to loss of possession and quick transition to defence.
Support players angles, distances and movements.
