Transition Game (20 mins)

Objective: Reacting to quick transitions and recovering possession quickly. 

Organization: 40Lx25W, 14 players, 2 pug nets

Conditions of play: Ball starts in a 6v2, when blue (neutral player) wins the ball, they keep possession in the 30x25 square, when red recover they are trying to score quickly in either goal. If the red team score, they become the team keeping the ball. 2 points for a goal, play restarts the team in the 2nd phase complete 10 passes. 

Restarts: From the 6v2 every time. 

Coaching Points: 

  • Quick reaction to the transition. 
  • Intense pressure on the ball in tight spaces. 
  • Winning the 1st and 2nd pressure. 
  • Dominate the transition.

Transition to Attack Phase. (30 mins)

Objective: Working on the transition to attack in Zone 3, exploiting spaces either over or between lines. 

Organization: Full width x 60 yards. 17 players. (9v6) 

Conditions of play: Normal soccer rules apply. Red team get one point for winning the ball and shooting within 6 seconds of the transition, 3 for scoring within those parameters, and 2 points for scoring a goal in any timeframe. White team score one point for getting the ball over half. 

Coaching Points: 

  • Holding a line of confrontation 30 yards from goal, force the opposition to one side, prevent any switch of play from happening from when we engage in pressure. 
  • Outside midfielder steps out to pressure the WB, 6 and weakside 8 slide under to give protection to any ball forward and to support if that player gets beaten. 
  • Transition looking for the pocket inside either hitting the 9's feet or looking to get the 10 in space then ensuring 2 runners above the ball. 
  • High energy in the transition on the ball.
