Creating and Exploiting the Overload (20 mins)
ORGANISATION:
Attacking Players = Blue - representing a 1/4/2/3/1 formation.
3v2 in the square. 3 central blue midfielders vs the 2 Red CDMs
The objective for the blues is to utilise the width to create an overload outwide. Once 2 out of 3 players have touched the ball in the middle they can play the ball out to a FB. One red FB can go in and press the ball in the blue zone. CAM on blue team can go out of the area once the ball is played out to assist in the attack.
Defending Players = Reds - representing 1/4/2/3/1 formation
The objective for the reds is to win the ball back and score in the mini-goals in 10 seconds.
Principles:
Find Spare man
2v1’s – 3v2’s
Central 4v3 as would have pulled out the opposition FB
Sub-Principles:
Press quickly or protect the middle
Leave the furthest man
Introduce Midfield combinations in the buildout as another way of creating overloads.
Watch for the coaching process.
Team meeting, stress on principles.
Concurrent Feedback.

Coaching Points
Possible Key Points: ATTACKING Central Midfielders & Front 3
1. Create space - wide and long in the square
2. The movement to receive the ball in the square
3. Quality of pass to either 7/9/11 or FBs - exploit space downsides or through the middle of the pitch
4. 6,8,10 join in with an aggressive approach on/off the ball
5. Creating crossing opportunities/exploiting the middle with RWTB/dribbling to score.
6. Observe defending players - try to put the ball into space/gaps to exploit defenders position
