AIM OF THE SESSION

To develop an understanding of playing through the thirds of the pitch, to create goalscoring opportunities..

SET UP

A pitch (adjust size to suit age group) divided into equal sized thirds with a goal at each end.

2 teams (in this case 5v5) set up to play 1-2-1 - each with a GK.

Footballs placed in goals to speed play/restart practice.

HOW TO PLAY

Initially, players are locked into zones, looking to play forward from GK to create shooting opportunities.

If players make a successful pass forwards into the next zone, can they join to create an overload?

Once phase ends they return to their zone.

COACHING POINTS

Try and support the ball.

Movement, how, where, when?

Try to play forwards.

When should you do this? What happens if you can't?

Players are free to support play by following succesful passes both forwards and backwards and across multiple zones.

Once phase ends they return to their zone
