Description

One of the important aspects of implementing Rondos within our training regiment is to ensure it is done with our playing style and tactical plans in mind within a limited amount of space to recognize where the space is to attack..This is the basic Rondo to begin with to teach the basic technical/tactical of passing and receiving. The 3vs1 Rondo can be done with any combination of 3 players. In this example the players playing on the left side are used. Left Fullback (3), Left Winger (11) and Left Attacking MDF (10)

Rondo 3vs1 Outside the Square

An area of 8x8 yds, with a minimum of 4 players. The objective is to keep the triangle shape through out by passing and being proactive to anticipate passes. In this example the #3, starts with the ball and passes to the #11. As the ball is travelling the #10 runs to the free corner to maintain the triangle overload shape.

Players can rotate into the center to be the defender, when they intercept the ball and repossess it by running out of the box with it under control.

A time limit of 45 seconds within the middle

Coaching Points:

Angle of Support - always create and maintain a triangle. The player on the ball must always have a player to their immediate left or right. Open body to see majority of the field (left and right corners) and receive the ball on your front foot to move.

First touch - is the ability to control the ball in your personal space in front of you

Touch Direction - is the ability to take their first touch away from pressure or eliminate the opponent to link to their next action

Tempo - the pace of the ball means to make the ball travel fast enough not to be intercepted but controllable

Timing - Players off the ball should be anticipating a run to support the player when the ball is travelling

Good Position - is where you can receive the ball at your feet but it can not be intercepted

Rondo 3vs1 Diagonal Passes

An area of 8x8 yds, with a minimum of 4 players. The objective is to keep the triangle shape through out by passing and being proactive to anticipate passes. The aim is to develop a better understanding to move off the vertical line to receive a diagonal pass. All passes made are to be diagonal ones.

In this example the #11, starts with the ball and makes a diagonal pass to the #10. As the ball is travelling the #3 runs to the open side to create a better supporting angle and maintain the triangle overload shape.

Players can rotate into the center to be the defender, when they intercept the ball and repossess it by running out of the box with it under control.

A time limit of 45 seconds within the middle.

Coaching Points:

Angle of Support - always create and maintain a triangle. The player on the ball must always have a player to their immediate left or right.

Movement - When running to the open side, players must arrive and open their body to see majority of the field (left and right corners) and receive the ball on their front foot to move.
