Color Game (Partners)

Color Game

Players in teams of two with one ball per team. The coach names a series of colors the team must race to get the ball into. The fastest team to complete the series wins. Add a new zone each round and mix up the order to challenge players.

Coaching Points:

  • Rather than dribbling, can players pass to move their team's ball faster?
  • When your teammate has the ball, can you begin moving to the next zone and prepare to receive a pass
  • Communicate your position to the teammate with the ball
  • Proper striking technique to get your pass there quickly and accurately

1v1 to 2 Goals

Defenders serve a ball to the attackers to start. Attackers may score on either goal. If the defender wins possession, they may dribble over the attackers' line to score.

If players are successful, play 2v2. If attackers are struggling, play 2v1 before adding another defender.

Coaching Points:

  • Attack with speed, keeping the ball close
  • Use moves to change direction and/or trick the defender
  • Change direction to attack the open goal if one is blocked
  • 2v1: Can players use proper spacing and passing to attack the open goal quicker?
  • Defender: Position yourself to push the attacker away from the goals and their teammate.
