Midfielders attacking 9v9 transition to defend (20 mins)
Coaching red team (1-2-3-3) on a high press, defending high up the pitch with a transition to attack.
Method:
The blue teams system is 1-4-3-1 & will be playing out from the back, always starting with their goalkeeper. The blues objective is to try to play through the red press & score as quickly as possible.
The red team will be set up in a 1-2-3-3 & will be pressing high up the pitch. The red team will invite the goal kick from the blue team to either of the centre backs & get the press by showing the blue team down one side of the pitch.
Key points & coaching points:
-Our striker will encourage the first pass to one of the centre backs with the advanced midfielder on the opposite side ready to jump up to the opposite centre back
-Once the advanced midfielder presses the centre back, the other advanced midfielder gets over to the deep midfielder on the ballside & the striker drops in
-Narrowing the pitch up to the side the ball is on
-Nearest man getting pressure on the ball
-Centre backs condensing the game & goal keeping in a sweeping position
-Pressing aggressively with the intention of winning the ball back
-Counter attack at pace when we win the ball back
-Good communication & information from behind in the press
Transition to attack:
-Being positive on the ball when turning it over
-Attacking runners
-Bodies in the box
-Getting efforts on goal
-Two centre backs condensing the game. One in front of the reds striker & one in behind incase the ball turns over
Objective:
The objective for the red team is to have a good shape, be compact with minimum distances between our players. We want to be aggressive in our press when the ball is on one side of the pitch. Encourage the blues to play, to where our bodies are & force them into passing it into areas we can win the ball & counter attack. Condense the pitch & narrow it up to the side the ball is on.
The blue teams objective is to try to play through the lines of the red team, moving the ball sharp. If the blues beat the reds press, they must look to get a shot off as quickly as possible. The ball will always start with the blues keeper.
