Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): Number Passng

Number Passng (15 mins)

Organization:

20x20 (depending on numbers) per group

groups of 4-8

1 ball per group

Instructions:

Players are numbered off 1-8 for example. They need to remember their number.

When the drill starts, player 1 passes to player 2, then 2 to 3, and so on, when the ball gets to 8 they look to play number 1.

After they get the hang of going from 1-8 , reverse the numbers, going from 8-1

The ball can not stop moving and the players can not stop moving.

Coaching Points:

Approach the ball on an angle.

The planted foot is pointed towards their teamate.

The point of contact is in the center of the ball with the top part of the foot.

Players checking to the ball when they know they are next to recieve

Picking the head up to see where your next target player is

Spreading out and using the space

Main theme 1 (25 mins)

Organization:

-30x30 grid

-2 yard gates set up on the borders of grid.

-5x5 box set in the middle of grid

-Player standing inside of each gate

-Rest of players inside grid with a ball

Instructions:

-Players inside grid with ball dribble and find a gate player to pass to

-Gate player receives pass and gives a pass right back

-Everytime a player on the inside completes a pass with a gate player, they must dribble through the blue square and perform a move before finding a new gate player

Coaching Points:

-Get into line with the ball

-Assess the situation as the ball is travelling

-Select the appropriate surface

-Withdraw surface upon impact

-Direction of touch to enable next action

Main theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

-30x30 grid

-2 yard gates set up on the borders of grid.

-5x5 box set in the middle of grid

-Player standing inside of each gate

-Rest of players inside grid with a ball

Instructions:

-Now inside players must take the place of a gate player

-Gate players must leave the gate using a proper first touch

-Players still dribble through the blue square before finding a new gate player

Coaching Points:

-Get into line with the ball

-Assess the situation as the ball is travelling

-Select the appropriate surface

-Withdraw surface upon impact

-Direction of touch to enable next action

1v1 (25 mins)

Organization:

-20x25 yards

-Balls start on one side with Defenders

-2 pugg goals set on the end lines

Instructions:

-Balls start on one side with Defenders

-Defender passes it to the attackers

-Attackers have option to try and score on any goal

-If Defender wins the ball, they can score on any goal as well

-Stay in same lines

-Switch sides after a team scores 5 goals

Coaching Points:

-Get into line with the ball

-Assess the situation as the ball is travelling

-Select the appropriate surface

-Withdraw surface upon impact

-Direction of touch to enable next action

Progressions:

Progress to Scrimmage
