Free Dribble (15 mins)

Organisation:

• Set up the playing area as shown below

• Each student has a ball

• Dribble the ball around the playing area without touching a cone, another ball,

or another player.

• On signal ‘Change’, exchange your ball with another player and continue

dribbling

Modify:

  • Use only the inside of either foot
  • Use only the outside of either foot
  • Use the inside or outside of either
  • foot
  • Dribble slowly, dribble quickly
  • Dribble the ball in different
  • patterns: zig zag, circular,
  • rectangular

Sharks & Minnows (10 mins)

Organisation:

  • Minnows (players) start with a ball on one side of the area (wider than it is longer)
  • The shark (coach in red) starts in the sea, the minnows try to get from one side of the sea to the other without the shark tagging their ball.
  • If the coach tags their ball, the minnow becomes a shark.

Attacking KP's:

  • Soft touches - control.
  • Big touches - get past the shark.
  • Playing with head up.
  • Change of direction/speed to get past the shark

Questions:

  • How do we know what part of the sea to swim in?

Back to the Defender (15 mins)

Organisation:

  • Players start opposite each other. 
  • On the coaches command, the central player will receive a pass from his teammate as shown.
  • Once the pass is made, the defender can enter the field.
  • The attacker looks to turn and dribble through either gate to score.
  • Allow both teams an opportunity to attack.
Modify:
  • Use mini-goals/teammates instead of gates
Attacking Key Points:

  • Soft touches
  • Big touches to get away from defender

  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
Defending:

  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' as you approach the ball
  • 'Surfer' pose, side on, bent knees
  • Eyes on the ball

2v2 Wave Attack (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • Coach can start activity in number of ways. Attacker starts; defender plays to attacker to start or the coach plays in the ball.
  • Attacking team look to score in either opponent goal. 
  • Once attacking team scores, both teams leave the field and 2 new teams replace them.
  • If the defending team win the ball, they look to transition and score in the opposite goals. 

Modify:

  • Can make 3v3/4v4.
  • Give bonus points for a goal scored when the ball has been passed to a teammate.
Attacking KPs:
  • Play with head up - scan
  • Soft touches
  • Attack the space
  • Change of speed/direction to unbalance defender

Defending KPs:
  • Nearest player presses
  • 2nd player covers/gives balance
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' on approach to the attacker
  • Show wide/away from goal
Transition KPs:
  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)
Questions:

  • How can you create space for your teammate on the ball?
  • What sort of movement or run can you make?
  • Where is the space on the field?
  • Which defender should press first and why?
  • What is the other defender doing?
