SSG1

Organization

  • 25x40 yard grid, with 10x25 "neutral zone"
  • 2 minigoals on opposite side, put together.
  • Neutral player in "neutral zone", 4v4, 5v5 in main playing grid (neutral play if necessary in playing grid)

Activity

Teams look to score on the two mini goals. In order to score, team in possession must have the move start with the neutral zone player, either via a back pass or goal kick. Any out of bounds will result in goal kick for team that won poseession. If defending team wins the ball, they must play into neutral zone player before trying to score.

Coaching Points

  • Attacking Principles of Play (Specifically Movement, Depth/Width and Support)
  • Play back into support to relieve pressure and reset if needed
  • Receive the ball with an open touch.
  • Strength and angle of pass from neutral zone player to team ahead of them
  • Play the ball back to draw defenders forward and open space further up the pitch.
  • Move the ball from wide areas quickly to exploit space from adjusting defenders
