Passing Sequences

WARM UP: PASSING IN PAIRS

In pairs, one ball between. Passing and receiving

Progression:

  • Two touch back and forth
  • 1 touch back and forth
  • Receive with the inside of one foot, play back with the inside of the same
  • Receive with the inside of one foot, play back with the inside of the other
  • Receive with the inside of one foot, play back with the instep (laces) of the other
  • Receive with the outside of one foot, play back with the inside of the same
  • Receive across with the inside of one foot, play back with the outside of the same
  • Play a pass to teammate- backpeddle (after pass)- come forward and play (when teammate plays)
  • 1 touch competition (half the distance)
  • Increase distance: Play flighted then driven balls

Animation 2

Each player has a ball. Jog around the grid with one ball in hand. Can't touch it with the other hand. Now attempt to knock other players balls out of their hands. If you ball is swiped, go outside the grid, do five toe taps get back  in

Progress: If you get knocked out, you are out

Progress: Team vs team

Progress: Stay in grid for 35 seconds. Take those players into a small square for 10 seconds

WARM UP: SHADOW DEFENDING

In pairs, one players comes forward while the other backpeddles using defensive technique.

PROGRESSION:

  • Player comes forward and every once and awhile cuts to a side
  • Add a ball. Player dribbles forward and every once and awhile cuts to a side
  • Joust. Player dribbles forward and every once and awhile cuts to a side. Defending player  steps forward and jousts with front foot
  • Poke and Transition: Player dribbles forward and every once and awhile cuts to a side. Defending player pokes the ball forward then quickly transitions to attack. The attacking player now quickly transitions to defend
  • Tackle and Transition: Player dribbles forward and every once and awhile cuts to a side. Defending player then tackles the ball forward then quickly transitions to attack. The attacking player now quickly transitions to defend

GETTING THE GOALKEEPERS INVOLVED

WARM UP: GETTING GOALKEEPERS INVOLVED

Two teams each with a ball passing and moving within area

Every couple of passes, find and pass on the ground to  a goalkeeper who collect and distribute with their feet to team that passed to them

Progress:

  • Goalkeepers collect passes on the ground with their hands  and roll back to the team that played them
  • Balls are chipped to goalkeepers. Goalkeepers distribute with a throw to the team that played them
  • If played to goalkeepers feet, they distribute with their feet. f played to their hands, they distribute with their hands
  • Two team keep away. 1 point for each pass to a goalkeeper. Can't guard the goalkeepers
  • Same as above but now goalkeepers can defend the other goalkeepers

PASSING GATES

Play 3v3 or 4v4 in 30x30 or 40x40 area or needed. 

Score a point by completing a passl through a gate to a teammate. Can't score on the same goal twice in a row

PASSING WARM UP: PETER MELLOR

Form four lines. Two touches 1 touch if we can

1.  Pass an run the back of any other line. 

2.  Same as above but now we do not want a empty line (no players in one line). Try to balance the lines out. Players have to work this out during play. If one line is empty, play is stopped and everyone does a quick fun fitness then returns to play.  (ex 5 knee ups)

3 Bring lines closer (now have to make quicker decisions)

Three players one ball between 8-10 yards apart. Ball starts on outside. With inside of the foot, Player 1 plays player 2. Player 2 drops to player 1. Player 1 plays long to player 3 and follow pass. Player 2 now takes Player 1's spot. Player 3 plays short to Player 1. Player 1 drops to Player 3. Player 3 plays long to player 2. Player 1 takes player 3's spot.. Continue

Progress: Increase distance and play passes with instep on the ground
