Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)
Use the same space for all activities for ease of set-up and transition. Cones set out for the SSG, and all aspects of the session.
Balls at either end of the sessions incase balls go astray.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Objective
6 players run with the ball across the grid trying to get across quickly so the defenders don't steal their ball
Defenders try to steal a ball - if they do, they become the attacker, and attacker becomes defender.
Adaptations
Progressions
- add more defenders, make the space longer across, add a condition - must dribble with your non-dominant foot
Regressions
- take away a defender, make the space shorter across
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenges - challenge an individual player to use their non-dominant foot
Challenge a weaker player to get up to their full speed with the ball at least 1x
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Small sided game with channels in the width. A player can dribble into either channel and then can dribble with the ball undefended as far as they want. They cannot stop the ball though, the ball must keep moving.
Aim to drive dribbling throughout the whole pitch.
Adaptations
Progression
A defender can enter the channel after 5 seconds, make the pitch longer
Regression
Expand the wifth of the channels so that it's easier to get into the channels.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Condition - undefended running with the ball in the wide channels
Challenges - challenge an individual to try running with the ball outside of the channel where they can be defended.
Challenge teams to try to hold possesion through mainly dribbling, and short passing, timing the longest period.
Target - small goals

Dribbling Lines (15 mins)
Organisation
Area
20 x 40 yards
Cones at either end to denote start / end.
Objective
Players aim to dribble the ball from one side o fthe grid to the other, where they stop the ball and a team mate dribbles back in the opposite direction. Giving players a chance to dribble but unopposed.

Get ball out of feet
Make contact with laces
Head up
Get into running stride
Move quickly
Adaptations
Progression
- Create competition by adding a race between individuals / teams.
- Set time limit and challenge teams to number of ends.
Regression
- Make the dribbling distance shorter.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenges: for a stronger player - time them across and see if they can beat their time
For a weaker players - see if you can keep the ball in a straight line as much as possible
