Dog Pound
DOG POUND
Set Up:
Form gates using cones randomly throughout the grid (these will be indentified as 'towns, or cities') Goals are placed on each end line. Goals will be indentified as 'the dog pound'.
Two-Three players from the group will be designated as DOG CATCHERS and will be placed in the middle of the grid WITHOUT THEIR BALL.
The rest of the players will start in the grid, with their ball, anywhere they want.
GAME PLAY:
Players with their ball are DOGS, and are instructed to 'visit' as many towns as they can. Dog catchers will be trying to steal a dog's ball and put it in one of the DOG POUNDS. That player is eliminated from play and must sit outside of the goal with his/her ball.
Play for 1-minute, OR until all dogs have been 'caught', whichever happens soonest.
Variation:
Dogs can get a 'get out of jail free' pass, by dribbling through 10 cities before they get put in the POUND.
Dogs who are 'captured' must do 20 toe taps and can then return.
Dogs can count to see how many cities they can visit - high score wins.
COACHING POINTS:
Keep ball close and under control.
Use various foot surfaces to avoid 'dog catchers'.
Change directions when dog catcher is nearby (inside cut, pull back, etc).
Dribble with head up to locate the dog catchers.
Sheild the ball with your body.
