  • Light on your feet for quick movement.
  • Timing and balance!
  • If defender wins the ball they try to get it back to the feeder.

Attacker:

  • Pick up strong and try find the high attacker through a gate.
  • Recognise where the pressure is coming from
  • Recognise if the defender is behind/in front or side marking- this may change your pick up. (behind marking=post up/side marking= slide lead wide/front marking=s shape leads in behind and high)

8v8 Game (15 mins)

8v8 Game with Goalkeepers

Include Goalkeepers in the goals with a flat marker scoring zone.

Each team has 2 attacking players that are score-zone-bound and may not come out of the scoring zone. Their team must get the ball to them and then they can try to score past the goalkeeper (2v1)

Coaches can allow ONE defender to drop in to tackle (your choice)

Encourage zone-bound players to make lateral runs and for their team to get the ball forward early

CHANGE IT: If getting messy, give each player a number and they may only tackle/mark their opposition with the same number

Defending 1-1 (15 mins)

SETUP AS SHOWN

3 Lanes

Cones / Balls

A1 passes to D1 and back to A1

A1 must eliminate by taking space what D1 gives "OPPORTUNITY"

D1 has to Channel A1 AWAY from LINE TO GOAL

Same follows for A2 & D2 & A3 & D3

On completion of each Shot at Goal from the A1/A2/A3 - The coach throws in second ball that each Attacker will shoot

This results in each Attacker taking 2 shots at goal.

Defenders need to close the space down and not allow easy passes

  • No jumping and getting eliminated
  • Flat Stick Tackles
  • Jab/block/shave Tackles
  • Communication from the Goalie to the Defender

Can make 2 v 2  if too slow. No keeper will also speed this up!
