1v1 Defending - Defending In front. (30 mins)
Practice Set up.
Oranges are defenders. Blues attackers.
Defending- Defend for 2 minutes sets. 4 rounds.
Ball transfered from waiting orange to blue. Current orange defender DOES NOT PASS.
When ball leaves players foot the defender can travel to press.
Blue looks to run the ball and finish into the mini goal (1pts).
If the orange wins it they try and run the ball back over the flat markers within 5 seconds (2 points).
Once the play finishes (goal, out of play, transition) players get off the pitch ASAP.MUST KEEP SCORE!
Defending in front detail.
Approach to the ball quick as ball travels then slow down on 1st touch.
If you can preventattacker turning or playing forward
Sit down (get a low centre of gravity on the balls of your feet)
If they receive facing forwards adopt a side on position – predictability
Show one way - chest between ball and goal.
Arms make the 1st move (block)
Don't plant feet, be light like a boxer.
Bend knees push off don't pull your body.
Patience, Don't committ 1st. Make them beat you.
Match Footwork.
Be ready to race - if they knock it past = bump and block.
Tackle with correct foot - distance is key
Execution of tackle - be aggressive and win the ball, no floppy ankles.
