Core Skill - 1 v 1.
Specific Aspect - Attacking the last defender in the final 3rd with supporting player/s coming from behind (overlap)
Key Principle - Effective Possession.
Session Objective: To improve the players ability to beat the last defender in the attacking 3rd and have a supporting player come from behind.
Skill Intro (20 mins):
10 players (2 grids)
Play starts with 4 on 2 sheva in the middle square. Once attackers complete 3 passes, 1 attacker is to drive at one of the defenders located on the edge of the large square and another attacker must support this player with an overlapping run. If they beat the defender out of the big square its a goal.
If the defenders get the ball during the sheva part, they are to maintain position in the big square and it turns into a 6 v 4 until the win back postion. Play then restarts in the small square with a 4 v 2.
Attackers to rotate every 6 minutes. Defenders on the outside square are to move into passing lanes so they are in a position to receive the ball should the middle 2 defenders win possession. They also rotate after every 2 successful 1v1 actions by the initial attack team.
Step Down: reduce defenders in the small square (4 v 1).
Step up: 2 defenders with 3 attackers (outside square)
Players should discover most effective / efficient way to beat the defender whilst mainating control of the ball. Initially ask for something we have used during the season (run directly at the defender with pace, an outside cut (incl shoulder drop), COP or step over) and as the players show understanding ask them to be creative or use a move that they have seen their favourite player do. Supporting player from behind gives another option to the ball carrier.

6 v 4
6 is attacking team, objective is to get one of the attackers into the final 3rd to drive at the last defender with a support run coming from behind by another attacker. Max 2 attackers in the final 3rd at any time.
4 is defending team, objective is to score a goal at the other end. Ony 1 defender allowed in the defensive 3rd.
** Change groups of 3 every 8 minutes so everyone gets a rotation of roles. **
Player Tasks:
When you have the ball in the final 3rd, drive at the defender and make him make a decision.
In the final 3rd, unless you're the ball carrier you must stay behind the ball.
Coaches Cues:
If I run at the defender am I making him committ?
What can you do when you get to the defender to beat him?
If I'm supporting from behind, where do I run? How do they know where I am?
Can I use my body to protect the ball?
Step Up's: Include a 2nd defender in the final 3rd and a maximu of then 3 Attackers.
Hidden learning: if attack team looses the ball, need to quickly transition into a BPO position (make the filed small) to try and win back possession / stop a goal being scored as quick as possible.

Skill Game (20 mins):

5 v 5 on 1/4 pitch
Team gets 2 goals for a successful 1v1 contest during the build up to the goal.
Black: Attack goal with the keeper to start.
Blue: To score in the 2 unguarded goals.
First to 4 wins - swap sides and re-start.
Be mindful of pitch size, maybe look at 1 less defender to ensure opportunities for a 1v1 situation occur as players have time to receive the ball and look to progress it forward.
