I. Defense: we are always forcing wide.
A. Everything is about shape.
B. Faster transition > earlier shape > better
C. Pressure-cover-balance are the founding principles of team defending
D. Close down quickly and Force Wide
E. Lines of defense.
1. Two Forwards:
- In charge of pressing both center backs. They also double down from center back to outside back from behind if ball is played. To pressure the opponent’s defense and also help in midfield if needed.
- Opposite forward needs to position themselves between center backs to prevent the switch and be ready to pressure if they try to switch the ball
2. Midfield Line:
- OM is in charge of pressing the opponents OB and forcing wide, when they are in possession of the ball. Force the OB to play with their head down because you are pressing immediately. Opposite OM needs provide 'fishhook'
3. HM needs to always be Goalside and ready to close down and tackle the ball if they see they can win it.
4. AM need to be able press and double down all over the field. When oponents OB has the ball they need to shift over and close down passing lanes in to opponents midfielders.
5. OB need to close the gaps between OM's. When our OM presses the opponents OB, our OB need to be in a good position of cover and clsoing down the space of opponents OM/OF.

Fishhook
- fishhook is the relationship between the weakside outside mid and the backline
- in the picture you see the RM making the "fishhook" with back three
Holding mid doesn't drop between the lines. Opposite mid provides cover for outside back.

The RUSH Doubling Down Philosophy
1.Every player is required to double down against the line underneath her. So the FW doubles against the left midfielder. The left midfielder doubles against the left back.
2.The attacking Mid and the holding midfielder can double in all directions and are only restricted by work rate
3.The left and right mid can double forward if they think they can close the ball and win it

3-5-2 Positions and their defensive responsibilities (30 mins)
1-3-5-2 Positions
GK - Goalkeeper - must play high line and comfortable playing a sweeper role. Good communicator with back line and vision to anticipate any breakdowns
RB - Right back - great 1v1 defender, aggressive and understands how to provide cover and balance
CB- Center back - The most important player in the back three. Doesn't have to be the most athletic but has to know how to read the game and communicate with entire team. #1 most important characteristic is communication!
LB - Left back - great 1v1 defender, aggressive and understands how to provide cover and balance
RM- Right mid - great 1v1 defender and must always provide balance with "fishhook" for weakside outside back. Good positional understanding
HM - Holding mid - must play always try to be Goal Side (in line between the ball and the goal) or else the whole line collapses. Only way opposing team can split us is if you’re not in position. Against a 2 front HM is 10 yards off of the three, against a 3 front you’re 7 yards off the 3 backs. HM can go sideline to sideline, tackling everything you can.
AM- Attacking mids : the two AM's must have a high work rate, and pressure all over the field. They need to stay connected defensively. Will need to double down in all areas of the field. If ball gets played past them, they need to turn, sprint and Double Down. Doesn't have to be the quickest but an extremely hard worker.
LM - Left mid: great 1v1 defender and must always provide balance with "fishhook" for weakside outside back. Good positional understanding
FW- Forward: has to be ready to double down to anything in their area and understand how to position themselves between the two center-backs. Extremely hard worker as well.
FW - Forward: has to be ready to double down to anything in their area. Extremely hard worker as well.
