Organization:

  • 10x10 boxes (# of boxes depending on players)

Instructions:

  • 2v2 
  • Each pass = 1 point 
  • Have teams count their points 
  • 30 seconds - 1 minute matches 
  • Have winners with highest point tally play each other 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Focus on the space available around the opposition 
  • Try to find passing lanes through dribbling and smart movement 
  • When defending try and cover the space and passing lanes effectively 
  • Specific communication ("time", "man on")

Progressions:

  • Condition: fewer touches  

Regressions:

  • 3v3 with 15x15 area

Organization:

  • 20x20 area per group 
  • Cones set up in the shape of a cross

Instructions:

  • Play a 1-2 passing movement with the player at the next cone (station)
    • 1st player passes to the player at the 2nd cone and makes the movement into space to their left
    • The player at the cone then plays a first-time pass back to the 1st player into the space they are running towards
    • The player at the cone makes the run into space to their right as soon as they play the pass
    • The 1st player stops to wait for the run of the player at the cone and makes the pass into space 
  • Have both sides compete (1 rotation = 1 point)

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Focus on the quality of the pass (the effectiveness of the move depends on it)
  • Head up at all times (carefully observe the movement of your teammate)
  • Non-verbal communication (hand signals to where you want the ball)
  • Verbal communication

Progressions:

  • Once players find their rhythm introduce 2 balls (dependent on # of players and skill)

2v2+1

Organization:

  • 20x20 area 
  • 7 cones on either side to create 2 min-goals for each side

Instructions:

  • 2v2 w/ teammate on the outside
  • Must pass to the player on the outside and perform a 1-2 in order to score
  • Players on the outside can move across the line in order to become an option 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Focus on the space available around the opposition
  • Try to find passing lanes through dribbling and smart movement
  • When defending try and cover the space and passing lanes effectively
  • Specific communication ("time", "man on")
  • Player on the outside has to be constantly in the game in order to become an option 

Progressions:

  • Limit player on the outside to move only along space in b/w mini goals

Regressions:

  • Players can score w/o passing to player on the outside but if they are able to connect with them their goal = 3 points

Conditioned Game

Organization:

  • Big goal and 2 mini nets 

Instructions:

  • Players must perform a 1-2 pass in order to score OR play a pass in b/w the lines 

  • Bonus: If all players manage to touch the ball then the goal counts for 3 points
