Description

Session Objective:

The passing square is used to warmup the players, giving them lots of touches on the ball, and helps set the tempo of the session.

Set Up: 

4 cones 8x8m square

1 ball (spares needed nearby)

4 players

Instructions:

3 people on cones, one in the middle

Players on the outside pass to middle person, then move to the spare cone.

Player in middle passes to outside players, but stays in the middle.

Player in middle switches out after set time (30sec - 2mins)

Variation/Progression:

Size of square can be changed depending on touch and tempo of drill. (6m-12m)

Players can warmup-stretch on outside cones

Bounce pass combo can be added 

Left/right foot only

Touch limit/rules

Key Coaching Points:

Coaches set the tempo, depending on recovery needs, or intensity of session needs

Players should think pass and move

Make the area as big as possible with the position of the middle person

Player Coaching Points:

Stay on your toes

Body position

Headcheck

Call the ball

Check off the cone

Change of speed with a sprint to the new outside cone

Set Up:

4 cones 8x8m square

5 players

Instructions:

3 people on cones, 2 in the middle

Players on the outside pass to middle person, then move to the spare cone.

Player in middle passes to other middle, the to outside players.  Players in the middle seat in the middle.

The middle player that makes the pass to the outside person, receives it back then passes to the middle players
