Key Element: Diamond Shapes Positioning
Session Objective: During this session, we look to work on our passing patterns in build up. The key focus is achieving our diamond shapes positionally to ensure ourcentre backs have multiple short passing options (wingback, cdm and cm)

Set up:
25 by 20 zone.
3 groups of 2 players. add joker centrally if odd numbers.
Organisation:
Ball starts with deepest red player. Goal is build up to opposite red player playing direct or using the blue players. Outside players in possession must stick close to their cone.
Yellow are defending attempting to intercept the ball or tackle to turn over.
Rotate groups every few minutes.
Progression:
1. If defending team win the ball or a loose pass is played, last pair to touch the ball is now defending. OR
2. Combine grids to create a 4v4+4 across the pitch.
Coaching Points:
Scanning before receiving - Can we identify the best passing option before receiving the ball.
Quick ball movement - Can we keep the ball moving at pace not allowing time for the BPO team to get set. (2-3 touches).
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Set up:
Half pitch. 6+GK vs 5
Organisation:
Ball starts with GK, plays out a non-contested ball to either centre back.
Red attempts to build up in our diamond shapes to either red square.
Red can dribble into the square or receive directly in there.
If blue wins the ball, they attack on goal.
Player Instructions:
Centre Backs (3+4) - Maintaining positioning in the half space, don't get dragged wide removing our passing options.
Wingback (5+7) - Staying level and outside of the opposition midfield block, look to take your first touch in behind their line.
CDM (6) - Moving towards the ball carrier staying in the central third of the pitch.
CAM (10) - Moving into the half space being a direct passing option from our centre back.

Passing Practice (5 mins)
Set up:
25 by 20 zone.
2 groups of 2-4 players.
Organisation:
Pass initiated from cone closest to 18, player passes to the right and immediately receives the ball back. After receiving the ball back, ball is played down the line to the other pair. Players switch cones within their pair while the other group is performing the one-two.
Coaching Point:
Replicating a CB > RB > CB > CM passing pattern. Demonstrate how this pattern disrupts the opposition block and opens space by moving the defenders around.
