Working on creating and triggering the through ball to get our strikers scoring.

As before, but instead of the play alternating sides, you will now shout "Red" or "Orange" - the player on the colour you shout is the shooter, the other player is the chaser.
The drill happens exactly as before, the shooter comes through the gate, points which way he wants it and that side plays a through ball down his outside, but now he is being chased. The chaser must go through the gate too before chasing after him and trying to stop him scoring.
The focus is on disguising which way you are going to turn and where you want the through ball.
This drill mimics a centre forward coming short then turning to trigger a through ball. Can the striker get a first time shot away, can he explode out of the turn, can he fool the defender?
Can the midfielder see the pass and time it right, with the correct weight of pass?
Swap passers and shooters so everyone understands the principals.
Again, swap keepers after every 5 shots.

To make this more difficult for the strikers and potentially more game realistic, add in a new white gate 2 yards before the red gate. The defending player now only needs to go through the white gate before applying pressure and trying to prevent the goal.
Can the striker use his body against the defender? Is he dynamic enough to get to the ball to strike it first time? Is he shooting across the keeper?
If you want to progress this further, you could put a third passer in, who plays the ball to the striker as he comes though the gate, he plays it to the left or right passers and they play the through ball down his outside.
You can also add a second striker in to follow in for rebounds.
Again, swap keepers after every 5 shots.

This is a fast moving drill practicing timing and weight of a through ball and first time shooting off both feet
Players in short lines (of 3) in the 4 starting positions -
Yellow or Orange Cone - Shooters
Blue cones - passers
1. Player runs through the red gate, points left or right as he comes through it...
2 - if he points left...
3 - the left passer will play a through ball down the outside, (if he points right then the right passer will play the through ball down the outside. The striker must trigger the pass by turning sharply (the pass is played at this point) and runs through to...
4 - shoot first time with his outside foot.
Play fast, and alternate sides, so when the pass is made, the next player sets off from the other side and the drill repeats. Remember he points and goes whichever way he wants.
Focus on the trigger - the change of direction is the trigger to pass.
Swap passers and shooters so everyone understands the principals.
The keepers will be working very hard in this drill, so get them to swap in every 5 shots.
