Switching Play (15 mins)
Organisation
Use an age-appropriate sized pitch. Adjust the number of players accordingly.
Divide the pitch into three equal channels.
A goal can only be scored if the ball has been switched from one outside channel to the other.
Coaching Points
- Team in possession to build play through good ball retention.
- Quick passing to eliminate pressure.
- Draw defenders across to create a weak side before switching play.
- Support the play from behind to provide a passing option.
- Defending team should stay compact.
Progressions
- Ball should stay under head height except for switches.
- Mark a 5 yard channel along each touchline that wide players can attack through unopposed.
