Instructions:
- The Orange team starts wide to encourage transition. As the ball is played by the bottom of the middle diamon, player number 5. orange team pushes up to offside line.
- Play starts from player number 5 playing a ball to attacking team (white CM's)
- As soon as white gets possession of the ball, orange team squeezes in and white attack to score.
- When Orange win the ball, they have 10-15 sec to dribble over the blue line/cones.
- The White player in the end zone cannot cross blue cones, however, he can be a supportive player for white if needed. Progression: Allow the player to join in but to stay central.
Coaching points:
Managing the orange team:
- If the ball is here where would you be? show me your shape?
MF's:
- Penetrate. "I understand that we want to play possession but look again.. What do you see?" (try to hit the striker)
- Keep head up. "Try to keep your head up and see these runs. What kind of pass are we looking for?" (short, long, through)
- Mobility: Creating space for each other - checking away
- 1v1 or 2v2: "Look at the situation here, what do you see? where do you think we should deliver ball so we have a chance at scoring?" (into space or into feet)
- Body position: "How can you receive the ball, so your first touch gets you facing the strikers?" (open up your body)
Strikers
- Try to receive the ball at an angle. why: So they are half turned and facing the goal so they can get a quick shot in..
- First sticker, When receiving it under pressure, don't hold it. "What can you do instead? " (wall pass, play short to go long)
- Choose your runs. The second striker finds open space to run in behind. "Would you want to go where there are three defenders? where can you go?"
- Unselfishness: 1st striker combines, and show to open space for the 2nd sticker. 2nd striker movement off the ball to create space for the striker on the ball.
- Accuracy and Power (accuracy first). Be composed
- Width & Depth
- First priority of the striker is “Can I shoot?”
- Rebounds (follow all shots in)
- Can I spin defender or can lay off for the midfielder to score. Can I play a wall pass with running MF?
- Amount of touches/time quick play.
Note: Show positive reinforcement after a successful demonstration
