SAQ / Technical

Organization: Set up grids that are 8x8 in size with one player from each team in each of the 4 grids. On the two sides of the grid set up two different SAQ drills so the remiaining players will be doing that while we have one on one games trying to stop the ball on the line.

 Activity:

Players inside the grid will be trying to be the other teams defender and will earn a point when stopping the ball on the line. As soon as this is accomplished and you have stopped the ball on the line the other player will now be attacking you and trying to do the same thing. Rotate players who are inside the grid with players doing SAQ.

Note: Because the 1v1 is hard work make sure you are not leaving those players inside the grid for too long.

Coaching Points:

1. Be ballanced and fluid through all parts of SAQ.

2. When attacking the defender in the middle make use of your space.

3. Protect the ball from the defender there will be times when you need to slow down and shield the ball not allowing the defender to win it.

Organization: Set up siz total grids all 7x7. Three will be set up for touches in the ball and the others for SAQ. Four players in each grid. Two balls per team.

Activity:

The players opposite the three players will be passing and recieveing teo sperate balls from thier teammates. The pass will be made and in 1 or 2 touches the next pass needs to go to a teammate who does not have a ball. The player may not play to ball back to the player who just made the pass. Players will continue this pattern until 60 seconds has expired. From their each team will move forward towards the single player and complete the SAQ directly in front of them.

SAQ 1. - Two times through the ladder on each exercise. (forwards run, side run both ways, two feet in two feet out.

SAQ 2. - Two times through the hurdles on each exercise. (right foot only jump overs, left foot only jump overs, Side run two feet in each facing both directions)

SAQ 3. - First triangle - spring upwards to the left, slide across, backwards run back around starting pole, explode through the front two poles making your way to the next single pole. Section 2 - sprint to the single cone right in front of you then backpedal around the cone on your left, sprint forward to the next cone in front of you, get around the cone and backpedal to the cone behind and to your right. The pattern is completed after you explode out to the pole 10 yards in front of you. Section 3 - Zig zag in and out of the poles staying low and balanced finsihed with a quick explosive 5 yard run. Teams will move clockwise moving to a new SAQ location each time a new player is connecting the passes.

Coaching Points:

1. Try to play one or two touches max.

2. Always communicate and help your teammates.

3. Active feet because the space is tight.

4. SAQ - get through each rep balanced, under control, and focus on changing direction and exploding into a new space.

Organization: Set up three different teams each in a different channel with a different SAQ drill.

Activity:

Once the player has made it through the SAQ portion of the channel he/she must perform the tecnical portion of the movements. Each movement will be different depending on what channel you are in.

A: 3 toe touches on each of the 3 balls.

B: 4 foundations (boxes) on each of the 3 balls.

C: First touch forward with a soul change on each of the three balls.

Coaching Points:

1. Be sure to have ballance as you make it through each of the three stations.

2. Be sure to finish the drill that means performing every touch you need to on all three balls.

Warm Up / SAQ

Organization: Two full goals / Three channels working on warming up GK's and getting loose for the finishing session.

Activity:

Both sides (teams) will be starting at the same time with the players opposite the goal on their end line weaving in and out of the cones with tight touches on the ball and keeping your head up. As soon as the players with the soccer balls reach the first cone the players in the middle channel can start their SAQ drills, which will have both players finishing at the same time. Once the players in the middle channel get through the SAQ they will either receive a pass into feet, which will lead to touch and shot or the player will play a ball into space encouraging the forward to hit the shot first time. Players will switch lines as soon as they make their way through the pattern.

Coaching Points:

1. Shots should be on frame determining whether to hit them with placement or power.

2. Do not bail the GK out by missing frame.

3. Each rep counts. Make everything count when doing your warm up reps.

SAQ (30 mins)

ORGANISATION

Set up circuit as shown in the diagram.

The group is split in half. One group works (blue) while the other (red) is actively resting as servers.

blues work for 5 minutes then rests for 5 minutes as the reds group works. Each group completes the circuit 4 times.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Players start at one of the 8 stations and move around the circuit in a clockwise motion, completing:

•Passing exercises at each yellow cone.

•Ladder exercises at each ladder, followed by a football technique.

•Hurdle exercises at each set of hurdles followed by a football technique.

For simplicity in explaining, we will start the circuit at the bottom right cone:

1.blue exchanges passes with a central server, using both feet.

2.blue works through the ladder in a forward motion (2 feet in). With the server he then completes 2 side foot volleys, one left, one right.

3.blue exchanges passes with a central server, using both feet.

4.blue works through the hurdles in a forward motion (bunny hops). With the server he then completes 2 half volleys, one left, one right.

5.blue exchanges passes with a central server, using both feet.

6.blue works through the ladder in a forward motion (hop-scotch). With the server he then completes 2 laces volleys, one left, one right.

7.blue exchanges passes with a central server, using both feet.

8.blue works through the hurdles in a forward motion (1 foot in). With the server he then completes 2 knee control and volleys, one left, one right.

The reds group then works. Repeat 3 times.

 KEY COACHING POINTS:

1.Work hard and don’t cut corners.

2.Perfect movement technique before working on quickness.

3.Ensure quality with the football, even when tired.

4.Help your team-mates with encouragement as they tire.

PROGRESSIONS:

1.Do SAQ exercises using lateral movements.

2.Do SAQ exercises using backward movements.

3.Do SAQ exercises using random movements.

Alter football techniques, e.g. inside-foot ball control and volley, chest and volley, heading etc.
