Warm up (15 mins)

Organization: 2 grids 30x10, players to be split equally at the start of each grid as per above. 2 defenders in the middle of each grid.

Instructions: Players to attempt to run past the defender (no ball), not allowed outside of the channel that they are in, if they get past they get a point, if the defender tags them the defender gets a point. After either occurs then join the next line so it is a continuous game. Change defenders every so often. Defenders to compete against each other.

Coaching Points:

- Move to the attacker

- On toes, bend knees.

- Can you show them one way?

- Change body position so that you are side on and not square on.

- Fake to get them and jump back

Main activity 1 (25 mins)

Organization: Groups of 4

Instructions: 1 defender starts in the middle of the grid, 3 attackers to go one at a time. If defender wins the ball, they get a point for stopping it on the line infront of them. If attacker gets past and stops it on the line behind defender they get a point. If ball goes out of the grid then go is over.

Coaching Points:

- Move to the attacker

- On toes, bend knees.

- Can you show them one way?

- Change body position so that you are side on and not square on.

- Fake to jump forward and drop back

- Poke at the ball with your front foot.

- Win the ball!

Progressions:

Change defender

Make the grids smaller/bigger.

Main activity 2 (20 mins)

Organization: 2 goals, players to be split into 2 groups as above.

Instructions: 1st player from each line on coaches command to run straight forward and go around the cone at the opposite end of the grid to them. Then they are back into the middle, first one to get the ball goes towards goal and the other defends 1v1.

Coaching Points:

- As before

- Encourage contact/defenders may have to be strong.

- Get inline so body is in the way of the attacker and the goal.

3v3 play (30 mins)

Organization: 3v3 competition.

Instructions: World Cup style competition.

Coaching Points:

- Be aggressive on defence, pressurize the attackers.

- As before in the practice.
